As proof of progress in the improvement of the image the Municipal Government is carrying out along the tourist strip and large areas of the city, Puerto Vallarta Mayor Salvador "Chava" Gonzalez Resendiz recently presided over the opening ceremonies that granted public access to the Holiday Inn Beach, or, as it has been dubbed in recent years, "Holly Beach."

The work was made possible by negotiations regarding funds from the Sea-Land Federal Zone Fund. In his speech, the mayor explained that funds for this work had been earmarked before he took office, however, no follow up had been carried out. “After we came in, we saw the project was there, so we issued a call for tender and we saw it through rapidly. Within three months this project came true.”

Chava mentioned the importance of rescuing these types of spaces on the tourist strip, which had fallen into oblivion; likewise, the mayor remarked that the project to enlarge the Pitillal river bed, in order to avoid flash floods or other risks for the people of Puerto Vallarta, is still pending. This proposal is being analyzed by the corresponding authorities.

Addressing the audience, Salvador Gonzalez said that his administration continues to work shoulder to shoulder with the citizens. “We continue to bet on working together with all of you, it is satisfying to see the presidents of the colonias, it is because of the citizens’ support that great public works are made possible, like the one we are opening today.”

In closing, he explained that besides achieving the construction of this work in such a short period of time, the cost was reduced by 15% by using lamps that were stored in City Hall’s warehouses. This reduction did not affect the quality of the work, and the aim was to reduce costs without affecting the quality of materials used.

Attending the ceremony were SEMARNAT representatives Ramon Ortega Magaña and Julio Cesar Juarez; as well as Gustavo Bonilla Barragan from Profepa and several City Council members and other municipal officials.
