Construction has resumed on Los Muertos Pier. The new pier is scheduled to be completed in June 2011.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - After almost two months of no apparent activity, Southside Puerto Vallarta residents and tourists were surprised and relieved to see the installation of the new crane on Los Muertos Pier.

In an interview with the Tribuna, Construction Director Luis Antonio Zaldívar Zepeda revealed that work would be continuing on the pier and it is scheduled to be completed in June of this year. He explained that the newly installed crane would facilitate in mounting the new infrastructure frames.

Zepeda explained that he was aware of the publicized uncertainty regarding the pier project because of no apparent on-site progress. In association with Eduardo García Joya, Municipal Liaison, he states that work has continued at La Pesquera and Los Peines for approximately a month and the new pilings are being finished with a special paint.

He continued that the pilings would arrive on flat-bed trucks to the Los Muertos Pier location via Francisca Rodriguez street, which will be a complicated manuever. The newly installed crane will accommodate moving and installing the new pilings.

Zepeda stressed again that the work is not abandoned, but that the preliminary structures are being fabricated in other areas and workshops in Guadalajara. When the pre-fabricated structures are complete, they will be brought to Puerto Vallarta and the final assembly will be accomplished on site.

There is presently underwater debris that needs to be hauled away from the original demolition. One of the conditions of the demolition contract was that this debris would not be abandoned and Zepeda vows that this clean up will be accomplished by the contracting company with no additional funds required from the Jalisco State Treasury.

The officials join together in reassuring the locals, businesses and tourists in the Los Muertos Pier area that they have taken extra safety precautions to ensure no dangerous conditions during the upcoming Semana Santa holidays.
