The official insisted that the commitment of completion in 130 days is definite, and that the pier will be ready by January, though perhaps lacking details such as the mast and sail.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - In a private meeting with the Colonia Emiliano Zapata Neighborhood Association and area hoteliers, Sedeur (Ministry of Urban Development) representative Luis Antonio Saldivar Zepeda announced that the Los Muertos Pier will be ready in an estimated period of 130 days, between December and January.

Jalisco Ministry of Urban Development Director of construction for the North Zone, Valle, Sierra West, and Coastal areas, Antonio Saldivar Luis Zepeda, admitted to employers, municipal and state officials, and national action council members that the work has been considerably delayed due to the release of state and federal resources. Funds were allocated in 2009 and 2010, and they are still waiting for the allocated resources for 2011.

In this regard, he said that although no construction can be seen in the area, the entire structure has already been made in Guadalajara and it is now an issue of transporting it to the work site, which is now being addressed. The official insisted that the commitment of completion in 130 days is definite, saying that the pier will be ready by January, though perhaps lacking details such as the mast and sail.

In regard to the construction's economic impact on the neighborhood, employers in the area requested the initiation of a promotional campaign called "Los Muertos Viven," similar to the Malecón merchants' campaign, which the city supported through publicity and funding.

The representative of Sedeur would not commit to that initiative, saying it was "not his department," but recommended they seek assistance from the municipal and state tourism boards. However, in light of the economic losses caused by the blocking of the street, he did agree to the merchants' request for the removal of all of the mesh fencing by next weekend.
