December 20, 2011

On December 19, Puerto Vallarta Mayor Salvador Gonzalez Resendiz inaugurated a new outdoor gymnasium and sports center at the Agustín Flores Contreras Sports Stadium.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - The City of Puerto Vallarta, in partnership with the Cuauhtémoc Moctezuma Company, continues to strive for sport activities development, social interaction and physical fitness for Vallarta residents, and the December 19 official opening of the Agustín Flores Contreras Sports Center is a prime example.

The ribbon cutting ceremony was attended by prominent athletes Rosario "Chayito" Pelayo Fuentes and Alondra Bray. Mayor Salvador Gonzalez Resendiz, along with Institutional Relations Manager, Michel Hector Flores, Commercial District Manager, Francisco Gonzalez Gutierrez and Social Development Director, Adrián Méndez González, inaugurated a new outdoor gymnasium and sports center, which will benefit 800 athletes daily.

The Mayor thanked Cuauhtémoc Moctezuma for supporting the project as part of their social responsibility mandate. "The important thing is that we have spaces for exercise and new options in this sports center, that we recognize our commitment to continue working and investing in this center for many years for the betterment of Vallarta."

The city government is interested in continuing to promote sports so that other facilities will be built, including those planned for soccer and beach volleyball. The Mayor added that this gym will be "the first of many that we can install across the city and we will continue working on this."

Adrián Méndez González reiterated that the administration "has been integral in investing in sports through various programs in different neighborhoods of Puerto Vallarta, including the 70 neighborhoods have physical activity programs and programs for senior fitness."

He also congratulated the athletes who will be enjoying these facilities, which he said are weather resistant and contain necessary instructions on how to properly perform exercises.

Institutional Relations Manager for Cuauhtémoc Moctezuma, Héctor Michel Flores, explained that this is a project the company carries out as part of their social responsibility, seeking to develop physical spaces that create harmony and strengthen the community, an objective which has certainly been fulfilled in this case. "I am delighted to see the community uniting with sport and seeing that this is not an investment that will remain empty, seeing that it is an investment that will be permanently used by the citizens of Puerto Vallarta."

Commercial Regional Manager, Francisco González Gutierrez, thanked the Mayor and the Director of Social Development "for allowing us to support and contribute here in Puerto Vallarta. For us, it is a pleasure and an honor to participate and respond to arrangements that are made to support sports."
