At the inauguration of the IMSS Regional Hospital No.180 in Tlajomulco de Zuniga, President Felipe Calderón put into effect the Jalisco Universal Public Health Coverage Policy.

Puerto Vallarta, Vallarta - As part of the opening of the Regional General Hospital No.180 of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) in the Municipality of Tlajomulco de Zuniga, President of Mexico, Felipe Calderón Hinojosa, put into effect the Jalisco Universal Public Health Coverage policy.

Accompanied by State Governor Emilio Gonzalez Marquez, the President added that thanks to the efforts of this administration, Jaliscienses may have health care, "regardless of employment status or social condition."

"The policy is being delivered just as we reach two million 750-odd thousand popular insurance beneficiaries." Social Security here in Jalisco has more than four million beneficiaries. Four million 400 thousand, if one adds the number of Social Security beneficiaries with the recipients of benefits from Seguro Popular and other smaller institutions.

"Since coverage will now reach the entire population of Jalisco, we can now say that today Jalisco has achieved universal health coverage, i.e. doctors, medicines, hospitals, and treatment for any Jaliscien that needs it."

Calderon said the success of this program is made possible by medical infrastructure investments made in Jalisco and throughout the country, as exemplified by the Regional General Hospital No.180. The new hospital is considered one of the largest in the country.
