CUC Students to Host Free Public Health Fair May 16th

May 14, 2013

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - In an effort to contribute to the prevention of high risk diseases in Puerto Vallarta and the Banderas Bay region, Centro Universitario de la Costa students in the third semester of the Nursing Bachelor degree program and the University's Health Sciences Alumni Society will be holding a free Health Fair on Thursday, May 16th from 8 am to 2 pm.

This initiative, led by the bachelor students supported by specialists such as nutritionists, dentists, psychiatrists, and experts from the CAPASITS Sexually Transmitted Diseases, HIV Prevention and Patient Care Center, will be held at la Casa de Vinculación Mojoneras, located at Calle Yucatan #581 on the corner of Chiapas in Colonia Mojoneras.

In addition to providing medical care, these completely free services are intended to educate and inform the public on issues such as the use of contraceptives and oral health, "because, unfortunately, in a lot of cases adults within the household lack education... they still do not know how to brush teeth properly in the case of oral health ... Unfortunately there are also those who do not know all the types of contraceptives that are available, and many people do not know how to put on a condom, so it is important for us, as specialists, to support them," said nursing program president, Javier Moreno.

Therefore, keeping in mind the importance of preventing disease, the students and alumni will be offering the general public free nutritional counseling; HIV (AIDS) rapid testing; and information on oral health; the early detection of breast cancer, diabetes and hypertension; family planning and contraceptive methods; as well as folic acid and breast feeding information for expectant mothers.
