Seismologist: Huge Earthquake May Strike Mexico City

August 28, 2013

Speculations are on that Mexico City could witness a devastating earthquake before December. In September 1985, a 8.1 magnitude earthquake struck the city causing substantial infrastructure damage.

Mexico City, Mexico - Speculations are on that Mexico City could witness a devastating earthquake this year. According to reports, a Mexico City-based seismologist has predicted that an earthquake of substantial magnitude could potentially strike the Capital City before December 2013.

Seismologist Gabriel Curiel Flores owns a website called PredicTerremotos.blogspot.mx. Most of his posts are based on predictions derived from a theory which he calls "Theory Of Gravitational Forces." According to Flores, the theory helped him accurately predict the earthquake that shook Japan in March, and he says that, based on tectonic plate movements, an earthquake of magnitude 8 could hit Mexico City as early as this fall.

Flores' website has gone viral in Mexico among Twitter users due to a recent surge in earthquake activity that included a 4.5 magnitude movement tht took place earlier this month. Some users have embraced the theory while others question its scientific validity.
