Fire Burns Mantamar Beach Club to the Ground

go to original
January 8, 2014

The Mantamar Restaurant and Beach Club, which opened at the end of December, burned to the ground last night when a short circuit ignited the palapa and fire spread throughout the structure.

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico - A short circuit resulted in great economic loss for the owners of the recently opened Mantamar Restaurant and Beach Club on Playa los Muertos, which burned to the ground after a fire erupted early this morning.

The incident took place on Calle Malecon on Colonia Olas Altas at around 12:25 am, when a short circuit ignited a portion of the palapa restaurant, and fire spread throughout the establishment within seconds.

When the incident was reported to authorities, a police unit led by Rigoberto Espinoza Veladez rushed to the scene, cordoned off the area, and called in the fire fighting unit.

When the bomberos arrived on the scene they fought the fire for over an hour, but were unable to put out the flames. Though no one was injured, the flames, which reached a height of almost 10 meters, were visible all across Banderas Bay.
