The GDP of Mexico is around a trillion dollars, thanks to its billionaires who have been making waves across the world. Topping the list is Carlos Slim, who is also the 2nd richest person in the world.

It might surprise you but Mexico, the underestimated next door neighbor of the United States, has a robust Gross Domestic Product - around a trillion dollars - and all thanks to its billionaires who have been making waves across the world.

Below are listed the top 10 billionaires of Mexico who contribute to the nation’s economy and ensure that it remains on track, all the while.

1. Carlos Slim Helu

A graduate from Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico, the 73-year-old Carlos Slim Helu is currently the richest man in Mexico and the second richest, the world over. His net worth is over $73 billion. The business tycoon has invested heavily in telecommunications, mining, and real estate business.

2. Alberto Bailleres


The second richest person in Mexico, Alberto Bailleres net worth is around $18.2 billion. His interests are in the mining business primarily, and the 82 year old business tycoon is also the chairman of Industrias Penoles.

3. German Larrea Mota Velasco


A net worth of over $16.7 billion makes German the third richest individual in Mexico. The business tycoon keeps away from media and has primary interests in Grupo Mexico, a firm which is credited with being the largest copper producer in the world.

4. Ricardo Salinas Pliego


CEO and President of Salinas Group, Ricardo Salinas Pliego has a net worth of $9.9 billion. Ricardo has been able to turn his family run business into one of the biggest electronic retail businesses in Mexico. He has also successfully struck a deal with a cash advance firm, Advance America which he purchased in 2012 for $780 million.


5. Eva Gonda Rivera

With $6.6 billion beside her, Eva is the fifth richest individual in Mexico. Credited with being the richest woman in the country, Eva has primary business interests in FEMSA, a beverage distribution firm in Mexico.


6. Maria Asuncion Aramburuzabala Larregui

Maria Asuncion owes her major share of $5 billion to her inheritance of shares in a beer making firm in Mexico. She is also credited as being the first woman board member of the Mexican Stock Exchange and is the second richest woman in the country.


7. Jeronimo Arango

With wealth of over $4 billion, Jeronimo a Spanish born Mexican comes in at number seven on the list. He has invested his major stakes in the property market in Los Angeles and has sold some of his stakes to Walmart making money in the bargain.


8. Emilio Azcarraga Jean

A net worth of $2.5 billion makes Emilio the 8th richest person in Mexico. Incidentally, Emilio aged 45 is also the youngest billionaire in Mexico. He is the CEO of Televisa, a production company which is known to produce some of the best shows in Mexico.


9. Rufino Vigil Gonzalez

The ninth spot on the list has been taken up by Rufino Vigil who has a net worth of $2.4 billion. Sixty-five year old Rufino has over 60 percent of the shares in Industias CH.


10. Jose and Francisco Jose Rojas

$2.3 billion in assets makes the duo of Jose and Francisco Jose, the tenth richest person in Mexico. They have bought over 51 percent of the stakes in Coca Cola’s bottling industry in the Philippines.
