April 11th Vallarta News Brief & Upcoming Events

April 11, 2014

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - There's always so much going on in Puerto Vallarta and around Banderas Bay, it can be difficult to keep up with it all. Here's a look at some of this week's Puerto Vallarta news headlines and community announcements, plus a couple of upcoming local events that you won't want to miss.

Fandango Returns to Puerto Vallarta

Fandango, the extravaganza combining dance, music and theater has returned to Teatro Vallarta for another exciting run of Wednesday evening performances. Featuring 30 dancers and 15 musicians, Fandango takes audiences on a colorful journey through the rich and magical history of Mexico. They start with pre-Hispanic myths leading to the rise of tequila and the traditional sounds of Jalisco and follow trends to the present day. The performance is enhanced by live Mariachi music, colorful costumes, acrobatic dancing and a dazzling light show. April dates for Fandango: 9, 16, 23 and 30. May Dates for Fandango: 7, 14, 21, and 28. All shows start at 6:30 pm. Tickets are $400 pesos and can be purchased online through ticketmaster.com.mx. Children get in free and locals can save 50% off of the regular price by purchasing their tickets (with proof of residence) at the Teatro Vallarta box office, which is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 am to 9 pm at Uruguay 184, just south of Ley's grocery store on the main street as you enter downtown. For more information, visit TeatroVallarta.com.

Galería 200 Hosts Los Mangos Art Benefit

Galería 200 has the pleasure of inviting you to a night of art in benefit of Los Mangos Library. Join us on Saturday, April 12th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. There'll be complimentary champagne and live music in the gallery's outdoor garden, where the works of two artists, Capelo and his son Javier Cruz, will be on exhibit. Other than in museums and in his own Guanajuato galleries, Capelo's work is difficult to find, and now you can own one, knowing that 15% of the sales will be donated to Los Mangos Library. Come out and support the Puerto Vallarta Public Library. As always, we would like to remind you that Biblioteca Los Mangos is not "just a library," it is a cultural and learning center. Music, culture and art all go hand in hand with literature and reading. As a Non-Profit Organization, Los Mangos Library and Cultural Center is a gift to everyone of all ages in Puerto Vallarta, and relies on donors and fund raisers like this to keep the doors open to this valuable community resource. Open by appointment only, Galería 200 is located at Santa Barbara #128 in Conchas Chinas. For more information, call (322) 221-5834.

More Celebrity Sightings in Riviera Nayarit

A recent visit by the winner of the sixth season of the US reality show, The Bachelorette, Roberto Martínez Jr., and his partner, Playboy Playmate Sara Jean Underwood, who was celebrating her 30th birthday in Mexico’s Pacific Treasure, put Riviera Nayarit in the international media's spotlight once again. The news of their visit was covered in magazines such as US Weekly and Life & Style magazine, among others. The lovebirds enjoyed the many attractions of the Banderas Bay area at the Villa La Estancia Riviera Nayarit in Nuevo Vallarta. They indulged in a couple's massage at the Tatewari Spa, went horseback riding, and Roberto even hopped on a surf board. While here, both celebrities were very active on their Twitter accounts, where they published photographs and comments, among them a moment with a Mexican-style love serenade. These celebrity sightings serve to nurture the public relations activities the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau carries out in the U.S., a natural captive market that is constantly being developed.
