2014 Bomberos Calendar Funds Support CPR Training

April 14, 2014

The 2014 Heroes calendar, which featured two dozen Puerto Vallarta fire fighters and lifeguards, generated over $200,000 pesos - about $20,000 USD - to support local community programs.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - With the support of the two dozen local fire fighters and lifeguards who posed for the limited edition 2014 Heroes Calendar, fundraiser organizers presented Puerto Vallarta Civil Protection and Fire Director, Sergio Ramirez Lopez, with a check for $200,000 pesos last February.

These funds, generated from the sold-out calendar's sales, were earmarked for ongoing community education and first-responder training in all areas of emergency services, including fire and lifesaving education, emergency rescue and incident management, and many other valuable life-saving programs.

As the world leader in CPR, first aid and emergency cardiovascular care (ECC) training and education, the American Heart Association offers a variety of options for emergency responders and the general public to learn lifesaving skills.

An estimated 20 million people died from heart disease in 2013. And, since, over 80% of heart disease related deaths take place in low- and middle-income countries, a portion of the funds raised from the 2014 calendar sales will support accredited professional training as well as training in outlying areas and for local businesses.

As the community felt a strong need to say, "Thank You!" event organizers and sponsors were recognized last week at a special ceremony coordinated by Puerto Vallarta Mayor, Ramón Guerrero, and Civil Protection Director, Sergio Ramírez López.
