Vallarta Taxi Drivers Raising Fares for High Season?

Update:Taxi Fares in Puerto Vallarta Increase by 25 Percent

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - With the onset of peak season, Christmas, and New Years, the Jalisco Department of Transportation wants to inform tourists and citizens alike that there are no such thing as "seasonal" taxi rate increases.

"There are no 'Christmas or seasonal' fares," says Gustavo Gómez Ulloa, regional delegate of the Ministry of Transportation. "Taxi rates are the same year round."

"We urge anyone who has been overcharged to note the location, time, and taxi number of any driver who imposes such an increase, and file a complaint by calling 226 1805, so we can act accordingly," Ulloa said.

Drivers who do not adhere to the established rates can be penalized anywhere from 10 to 30 days of minimum wage for each complaint.

The department has already received several complaints this month about Puerto Vallarta taxi drivers charging inflated rates and denying service to those who refuse to pay.
