"Elevator Chaos." "OXXO Robbery." "Jail Escape." "A Family's 'Normal' Dinner." These were among the plays written, directed, and performed by 25 seventh-graders recently at The Boutique Theatre. The kids visited the theater, at 287 Basilio Badillo above Nacho Daddy, two weeks earlier for an introduction and instruction. Their teachers are Heather Fenton and Michael Heneghan, from the American School of Puerto Vallarta. The visit was hosted by Ken and Karrie Sebryk, owners of The Boutique. "The parents were kind and generous," Ken Sebryk said, "and through their donations, we raised more than 2,000 pesos for Pasitos de Luz." Pasitos de Luz is the PV non-profit that assists local children with disabilities. "The whole experience was very beneficial for the students," said Fenton. "Ken and Karrie gave them an opportunity to showcase their talents in a completely new and exciting environment. They were understandably nervous and excited about the day, but they all loved it."

Snow Graffitti Campaign Invites Tourists to 'Take Your Clothes Off' in Mexico

Mexico's ministry of tourism has launched a new graffitti art campaign in the snowy streets of Chicago to promote Mexico as the tropical paradise where winter-weary gringos can go to take their clothes off in the sun. The country's tourism board commissioned a series of creative snow graffitti messages and launched a promotional video with the help of Spanish artist NosE Lanariz, who plastered his icy creations throughout some of Chicago's most emblematic streets. The campaign uses four catchy slogans: "Take your clothes off"; "Come melt under the sun"; "Beaches with sand this white"; and "Mexico: always a warm welcome." Mexico's tourism board has also launched Twitter hashtag #snowgraffittiMX to encourage tourists to escape to the tropical rays south of the border.

Mexico, US, Canada Groups Ask UN to List Monarch Butterfly Reserve as in Danger
FoxNews.com

Activists from Mexico, the United States and Canada are asking the U.N. World Heritage Committee to include the Monarch butterfly wintering reserve on a list of sites considered in danger. UNESCO designated the 139,000-acre (56,259 hectare) reserve in the mountains west of Mexico City a World Heritage site in 2008. Monarchs from the U.S. and Canada migrate 3,400-miles (5,470-kilometers) each year to winter in the forest reserve. But the number of butterflies wintering in Mexico has dropped steeply in recent years, leading to worries the migration might end. Writer and activist Homero Aridjis said that adding the Monarch site to the list is needed to spur governments into greater efforts to protect the butterflies' habitat. Much of the milkweed the butterflies depend on has been killed by herbicides.
