Mexico Pulls Out of Miss Universe Pageant

Fallout from Donald Trump's remarks about immigrants from Mexico continued to dog him Tuesday as a TV company backed by Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim said it was scrapping a project in development with the outspoken mogul. Ora TV became the latest company to cut ties with Trump over remarks he made in his recent presidential campaign kickoff speech. NBC and Spanish-language network Univision previously said they would not air the Miss USA or Miss Universe pageants, and Televisa, the Mexican TV network that airs Miss Universe, on Tuesday said there would be no telecast for the next contest. Mexico's national beauty pageant director, Lupita Jones, also confirmed on Tuesday that the country will not be sending a contestant to the Miss Universe contest. She said Trump damaged the pageant and its tradition of convening countries for an event that showcases "friendship, unity and breaking down cultural barriers."

Run the 'Recreational Race with a Cause' on Sunday, July 5

Puerto Vallarta's Municipal Institute for Women, in coordination with Grupo Bennu Group AC, invites everyone to participate in La Carrera Recreativa con Causa ('Recreational Race with a Cause') to raise funds for the civil association, which works to support women with breast cancer. The open (no categories) race will be held on Sunday July 5, 2015 starting at 8:00 am at the Agustin Flores Contreras Sports Stadium. Registration begins at 7 am and the fee is $50 pesos per person. The number of participants will determine the amount of money raised, which will be announced the same day to provide greater transparency. Sara Maria Chavez, who heads the Municipal Institute of Women, said the goal of the race is to raise as much as possible as the funds will enable Grupo Bennu to purchase special sleeves for women who have lost a breast as part of their cancer treatment. She went on to say how very important it is for the community to participate in the Race for a Cause, as it is a way of showing support and strengthening social awareness about this disease. Spanish King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia Visit Mexico

Spain's King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia began a three-day trip to Mexico on Monday, making their first state visit to the Americas since their coronation. The state visit went ahead as planned even though President Enrique Peña Nieto was discharged from the hospital on Sunday after undergoing emergency surgery on Friday to remove his gall bladder. Peña Nieto welcomed the royal couple at the Campo Marte military field in Mexico City, where they were treated to a cannon salute and a military parade. King Felipe used his three day trip to Mexico to focus on the strong bonds between the two nations. "This visit will serve to compare again the many things that 170 million Mexicans and Spaniards have in common, and the enormous potential in front of us," he said. At a business forum attended by Mexico's president he praised the economic, political, and energy reforms that the Peña Nieto administration has launched. Later, in an address to Congress, he noted the growing collaboration in the fight against organized crime and against climate change. The session in Congress came after a business forum in which the royals took part with Peña Nieto to explore new areas of economic cooperation. There are currently more than 5,000 Spanish companies investing in Mexico, with investments exceeding $49 billion dollars.

Charlie Sheen Enjoys Nine Day Punta Mita Getaway

Popular North American actor and comedian Charlie Sheen, former star of the popular television series, Two and a Half Men, returned to the Riviera Nayarit to enjoy some much needed R&R, repeating a getaway he took back in 2011. One of the friends he was with on this trip tagged him in a Twitter pic, where he gives thanks for the nine excellent days they spent at the Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita. Multifaceted New York actress Perrey Reeves was also spotted this past month in the Rivera Nayarit as she enjoyed her honeymoon at Villa La Estancia in Flamingos, where the idyllic and very romantic sunsets swept her off her feet. Young Mexican actresses Natasha Dupeyron and Sofía Sisniega also spent a few days of fun in the sun in Punta Mita. A few weeks ago Mexican actor Armando Torrea took some days off to enjoy The St Regis Punta Mita. He described the Riviera Nayarit in his social media accounts as "delightful." All of the celebrities that visited the Riviera Nayarit in June mentioned the Destination in their social media accounts and, in some cases, other types of media as well. Charlie Sheen alone has over 11 million followers on Twitter alone.
