July 10 Puerto Vallarta News Brief & Weekend Events

July 10, 2015

From live music and theater to cultural festivals, sporting events, charitable efforts and special interest group meetings, there's always something fun happening in Puerto Vallarta and around Banderas Bay.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - There's always so much going on in Puerto Vallarta and around the Republic, it can be difficult to keep up with it all. Here's a look at some of this week's Mexico headlines and Banderas Bay area news, plus some community announcements and weekend events that you won't want to miss.

Three Hens and a Rooster Special Flea Market Sale

On Saturday, August 1st, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, Vallarta's Three Hens and a Rooster marketplace will be holding their first ever Special Flea Market Sale. The event will be running alongside the regular Saturday market, which happens weekly from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, so you can also buy beautiful arts and crafts, baked goods, food to go, essential oils, home decor, homemade sausages, clothing and more from local vendors. It also gives you a chance to bring anything you may be interested in selling, from art to home accessories, your own products, electronics, gently used quality goods, furniture, etc. Call (322) 222-1303 for more information on how to reserve your spot. The Three Hens and a Rooster marketplace is located at Carranza 466 in Old Town Puerto Vallarta, a block and a half from the small tunnel, right across the Cristal ice company. See you there!

Hundreds of Circus Animals in Mexico to be Relocated

Nearly 1,100 wild animals, including elephants, bears and tigers, will be relocated from circuses throughout Mexico to zoos and conservation centers after a ban on public wild animal exhibitions took effect on Wednesday. Of the 1,091 total animals to be relocated, 87 will be exported and 69 will remain under the supervision of circuses, according to Mexico's Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (PROFEPA). The rest of the animals will be transported to 108 zoos and six conservation centers throughout the country. Though the Federal government banned the use of wild animals in public shows nationwide in January, the ban did not take effect until July 1, allowing circus owners time to transport the animals. PROFEPA asserted the law does not ban circuses having the animals, but prohibits the use of the animals as part of circus shows.

Puerto Vallarta Orchestra School's Summer Concerts

The Summer Concerts performed by the Puerto Vallarta Orchestra School's (OEPV) various ensembles have become a local tradition. The assemblages perform in various venues around town to present their work and demonstrate the progress that they've made - from the beginners' groups to the orchestral workshop, the institution's most advanced assemblage. On this occasion, we are pleased to announce three Summer concerts presented by the OEPV's advanced assemblies. The first concert will be held on Tuesday, July 14, when Conductor Samuel Rúa will direct the String Camerata with special guests, Diego Fernández, Regina Pavón, Aldonza Dávila, Fabio Reynoso and Luis Obregón - all OEPV graduates. Next up is a concert by the OEPV Symphony Orchestra on Thursday, July 16. Directed by Daniel Oliveros, the young musicians will entertain us with songs that range from the music of John Williams to Katy Perry. Last, but not least, Daniel Oliveros and Christopher Flores will lead a concert of fun and varied music performed by the OEPV's Brass and Wood Quintets on Friday, July 17. All of the concerts are free, and will be held at the Centrocity Aramara mall at 7:30 pm.
