Children and young people also competed on the sports complex's race track, where they ran from 100 to 200 meters, and the youngest competitors were impressive in races ranging from 400m to 1 kilometer.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - The Puerto Vallarta System for Integral Family Development's first 'Carrera Beca Padrino' (Scholarship Sponsor Run) to raise funds for children that do not have sufficient financial resources for primary and secondary school education, was a complete success.

More than 500 athletes showed up last Sunday at the Agustín Flores Contreras Sports Stadium to compete in the open category 5k run. Children and young people also competed on the sports complex's race track, where they ran from 100 to 200 meters, and the youngest competitors showed off their skills in races ranging from 400 to 1 kilometer.

It was pleasing to see entire families come out to support this noble cause on behalf of the less fortunate children and young adults, who without the participants' contributions would be dropping out of school without a chance to complete their basic education.

The director of DIF Puerto Vallarta, David La Rosa Flores, witnessed these activities with his team of collaborators, and acknowledged the support of each of the sponsors and participants, because thanks to them next week scholarships will be awarded to the children of Puerto Vallarta's most vulnerable families.

The president of the Puerto Vallarta Athletics League, Javier Ortiz and Judge Pedro Curiel, commented that it was the best race that has been organized this year in the children's and youth categories. "We congratulate Director David La Rosa and the Municipal DIF team for organizing such events that not only promote sports, but also supports needy families in the municipality."

Mariela Orozco, of El Ranchito, took the microphone to thank the Municipal DIF System and its director for organizing the event, saying "thanks to this, more children and young people will benefit from education."

After the races all of competitors received commemorative medals, and some won great prizes in the raffles sponsored by some of the city's best hotels, restaurants and convenience stores.
