Puerto Vallarta Has a New Mayor with New Priorities

go to original
October 2, 2015

With a short, clear and precise - even promising - speech, Puerto Vallarta's new mayor, Arturo Peña Davalos outlined what his government will do, including specific commitments and deadlines.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - After being sworn in at an open-air ceremony at Los Arcos de Malecón on September 30th, the new Mayor of Puerto Vallarta, Arturo Dávalos Peña, gave a clear, precise - and even promising - speech outlining what his government will do, including specific commitments and established deadlines for results, during his 3-year term in office.

Dávalos Peña began his swearing-in speech by thanking and recognizing Ramon Guerrero and Javier Pelayo who, during their terms in the Mayor's office, gave priority to serving the citizens and improving conditions in some of the municipality's meaner neighborhoods.

The new mayor made a commitment to continue improving our city, saying, "From the first of October we will start a new cycle. We understand what Vallartenses expect from us - a more balanced government. We know that in addition to the urgent demand for improved services, especially the collection of garbage and road improvements, we need more social support and job creation. We know you are concerned about the image of our city and that we need to rescue El Centro and strengthen the promotion of tourism in the downtown area... I'm here to tell you that you will not be disappointed," Arturo Dávalos Peña promised.

Amid applause for that first round of concrete commitments, Dávalos Peña stressed that he was not making empty promises, "but pledging to keep the commitment, on my word."

"My administration will have its own style, based on honesty, simplicity, hard work, and justice, with an emphasis on the people of Puerto Vallarta. "We will not tolerate the mistreatment of citizens by municipal employees. We live in a service-oriented city and the municipal government should be the first to give good services," he proclaimed to the enthusiastic crowd.

Dávalos Peña said he will also be a mayor who listens, who has open communications with the different sectors of society, "because everyone has something to contribute to the greatness of our city... Let there be no doubt, I will rule with all and for all, and together, we will move forward as we face new challenges."

As he did on the campaign trail, the new mayor announced that the vision that will drive his government will be based on five pillars to make our city great: prosperity, fairness, functionality, safety, and ecological responsibility. "Each of these axes requires us to think like a model city, where there are good jobs, decent infrastructure, safe public spaces, where there is equality, and where there is respect and care for the environment," Arturo Dávalos Peña explained.

"We want the city to be more prosperous, more human, and more unified with a direction that is inclusive, active, clear and dynamic. We want to make Puerto Vallarta a common home, a place where everyone, both visitors and patas saladas, feels welcome. We want our city to be a great destination," the new mayor concluded.
