José Gómez Pérez, the Mayor of Banderas Bay, served as the host for the activities that took place in the town's main square, where the Sayulita Pueblo Mágico plaque was installed.

Sayulita, Mexico - On December 2, 2015, Mexico's Secretary of Tourism, Enrique de la Madrid, unveiled the Sayulita Pueblo Mágico plaque in the township of Banderas Bay in the Riviera Nayarit.

"This is above all an acknowledgement of the town of Sayulita and this beautiful region of Nayarit," declared the Secretary of Tourism. "The intention of the Pueblo Mágico [program] is to preserve our historical and cultural heritage, but, above all, to provide the infrastructure of the locations with the ability to receive more tourism in a dignified and attractive way so as to generate economic development and employment."

"This distinction is an honor but also a commitment," he added. "The commitment is to continue to make the destination attractive, to care for it, to keep investing in it so it continues to be the capital of surf and maybe even baseball, and for it to contribute to the image of Mexico as a welcoming country that's well worth a visit." The Sayulita baseball team represents the state of Nayarit in Mexico's national league.

Catalina Ruiz, the Secretary of Tourism for Nayarit, represented Governor Roberto Sandoval at the event, where authorities from all three branches of government were also present. "There's no doubt Sayulita was imbued with a special magic when its landscapes were designed by Mother Nature, its climate is excellent, its views spectacular and its sea closely guards the secrets of time," said Ruiz. "Its streets are ever changing, as are the people, but they never lose their beauty or their energy."

José Gómez Pérez, Mayor of Banderas Bay, served as the host for the activity that took place in the town's main square, where the plaque was installed.

"We're very pleased to be gathered here today in such a special place in the Riviera Nayarit," said Gómez Pérez. "For us Sayulita was already a magical town even before it was recognized by the Federal Government thanks to the efforts of our State Government because it's part of the many attractions our lovely region has to offer the world."
