Puerto Vallarta News Brief and This Weekend's Events

January 22, 2016

From live music and theater to cultural festivals, sporting events, charitable efforts and special interest group meetings, there's always something fun happening in Puerto Vallarta and around Banderas Bay.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - There's always so much going on in Puerto Vallarta and around Banderas Bay, it can be difficult to keep up with it all. Here's a look at some of this week's Puerto Vallarta news, a few community announcements and a couple of this weekend's events that you won't want to miss.

First Nine Holes Open at New Vidanta Nuevo Vallarta Golf Course

The first nine holes of a new golf course in Mexico have opened for play. Designed by Greg Norman's firm, the new course forms part of the Vidanta Nuevo Vallarta resort near Puerto Vallarta on Mexico’s west coast. The course features paspalum turf on both the greens and the fairways, and lies on the banks of the Ameca River with views of the nearby Sierra Madre mountain range from all holes. As well as the new course, Vidanta Nuevo Vallarta will also be home to a Jack Nicklaus Academy of Golf, a lighted practice range and a short game area. The layout will eventually be comprised of 18 holes, with the other nine holes set to open in October or November 2016.

Puerto Vallarta a Top Destination for LGBT Travel in 2016

Assuming the U.S. economy is able to remain reasonably strong, 2016 has the makings for a great year to travel. Airfare for domestic and international travel has been dropping and the U.S. dollar is up against nearly every other major currency in the world. In addition, the number of destinations embracing LGBT travelers continues to grow. In a recent Metro Weekly article, Puerto Vallarta ranked #3 out of the 7 top destinations for LGBT travel in 2016. Here's what they had to say: "...nowhere in Mexico are LGBT visitors more welcome than Puerto Vallarta. Often referred to as the San Francisco of Mexico, the oceanside city is crawling with LGBT residents and visitors. It’s home to gay resorts like Casa Cupula, welcoming beach clubs like Mantamar, and happening bars and clubs like La Noche and C.C. Slaughters. And Puerto Vallarta’s Wet & Wild Gay Cruise and Gay Vallarta Bar Hopping tours are legendary. Puerto Vallarta also has a tasty culinary scene - especially the street food - and outstanding outdoor activities from zip-lining to whale watching. And let's not forget that the U.S. dollar is at record level exchange rates with the Mexican peso. A great time to visit Puerto Vallarta in 2016 is during Vallarta Pride, May 16 through 29, 2016."

Learn to Line Dance with Roger at Yoga Vallarta

Contemporary Line Dancing isn't just country/western any more! It's modern, urban sophistication, swing syncopations, flowing waltz and nightclub rhythms, and Latin flavor. We still dance choreography in lines - but with the look and feel of ensemble dancing. It's fun, great exercise, and it will free the dancer in you! Since you dance on your own in an ensemble, line dancing is ideal for singles and for partners of non-dancers. It's also wonderful for people who want a social activity that doesn't involve dating or partnering. So join Roger on Wednesdays from 12:30-1:30 pm at Yoga Vallarta, 325 Basilio Badillo on the South side of Puerto Vallarta, and you, too, can learn how to line dance for just $40 pesos per class! This is a drop-in class for beginning line dance students. Music and dance patterns cover many styles: CW, Rumba, Cha Cha, Waltz, Tango, 2-step, etc. No experience necessary. Fun guaranteed!

American School of Puerto Vallarta Open House

On Wednesday, January 27, 2016 from 9 am-1 pm, the American School of Puerto Vallarta will open its doors to families in Puerto Vallarta and surrounding areas to discover why we are more than you imagine. We want families to LIVE the American School experience so, instead of a typical presentation, we've set up a self-guided tour for visitors. There will be diverse areas to visit, each one representing an important facet of our school. Visiting families will learn about and discover the following: • Preschool • Primary School • Secondary School • Sports & Athletics • Art & Music • Community Service • Technology • Science • Libraries • Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) • Admissions & College Prep/Guidance. Free of charge. The American School of Puerto Vallarta is located at Albatros 129 in Marina Vallarta. For more information, call (322) 226-7672, email camerica(at)aspv.edu.mx, or visit aspv.edu.mx.
