Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - The sensational weather with which Puerto Vallarta began 2016 is a sign of fair skies and smooth sailing for the destination. For the next twelve months, all of the destination's previous successes, like the diversification of markets and consistently high hotel occupancy, are expected to come together to result in a greater economic benefit for all sectors.

The director of the Tourism Trust (FIDETUR) Agustin Alvarez Valdivia, reiterated that the purpose of this promotion agency were made very clear: to have very well-defined strategies in the areas of marketing, promotion and public relations - all aimed at capturing key markets. Their hope is to see their hard work reflected in the consistent and non-stop arrival of tourists throughout the year.

He said that 2015 laid the foundation for an orderly, clear and effective strategy, and that with the invaluable support of the FIDETUR Technical Committee and all of the employees who know the agency's goals, this year will be even better than the last.

Promoting Our City

As for events, the manager of the FIDETUR Promotion and Public Relations Department, Luis Villasenor, said that he has designed a very intense calendar that focuses on the tourist segments that Puerto Vallarta wants to attract.

He cited as examples some of the activities planned for the first quarter of the calendar year, such as an exhibition booth at the New York Times Travel Show, an expo that attracts thousands of visitors each year, and another at The Wedding Salon in Beverly Hills, California, (one of Vallarta's largest natural markets) to continue motivating this important tourism segment to choose this destination as a wedding venue.

FIDETUR will also participate in the Chicago Travel and Adventure Show, since this North American city is home to a great number of Gringos, Latinos and native Jaliscans who have shown a growing interest in visiting Puerto Vallarta.

Villasenor made special mention of Gala Vallarta 2016 which, from January 27-29, will bring the main wholesalers to Puerto Vallarta negotiate the supply of rooms with local hotel representatives. These meetings are expected to be very beneficial for both parties and to have a great impact on the city's hotel occupations this year.

In February the strongest national promotion will take place as the Vallarta-Nayarit caravan visits the cities of El Bajio - Morelia, Queretaro, San Luis Potosi, Aguascalientes and Leon - which are a very important part of our tourism market.

At the international level, FIDETUR will promote Puerto Vallarta at one of the largest South American tourism fairs, the Anato Fair in Bogotá, Colombia, in order to consolidate the gains made in that market which is showing a growing interest in exploring this region of the Mexican Pacific.

In March, there will be Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit seminars held in San Diego, Orange County, Los Angeles and San Francisco, California, as well as events in New York and Las Vegas.

Added to this, visits by invited journalists from national and foreign print publications and electronic means of mass communication, as well as some well-known celebrities, will shine the spotlight on this destination.
