Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - LGBT history was made in Puerto Vallarta on April 19, 2016 as Mayor Arturo Davalos officiated the city's first two same sex wedding ceremonies. On this happy day, Cristian Alberto Mejía Medina and Miguel Ángel Solórzano Macías, as well as Mayra Nathali Mendoza Mata and María Isabel Maciel Partida, were legally married.

"As of today, marriage between two persons of the same sex is recognized legally and socially here in Puerto Vallarta, so we are before the public making a formal commitment," said the mayor, in what is now a precedent of equality and fairness for all citizens.

Hector Ramirez Betancourt, president of the Collective Vallarta LGBT, was at the ceremony and also said that this is a historic day that allows the LGBT community to exercise its right to marriage and commitment. He further appreciated the openness and willingness of Mayor Arturo Davalos to comply with the law and enforce equal right of all Vallartenses.
