National Margarita Day Recipes from Velas Resorts

February 2, 2017

Spicy. Smoky. Herbal. Tropical. There are countless margarita recipes - ranging from classic to wildly inventive - that contribute to the margarita's place as one of the most popular cocktails in the world.

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico - Travelers don't need to be in Mexico this February 22 to celebrate National Margarita Day, thanks to the expert mixologists at Mexico's Velas Resorts, who are sharing the recipes for some of their tastiest specialty margaritas.

While the cocktail was invented in Mexico in 1937 consisting only of triple sec, tequila and lime or lemon juice, Velas Resorts has several variations, including Smoky Guajillo rimmed with chappuline (ground grasshoppers roasted with chili, salt and lime) salt, Red Fruit, Cilantro, and even one made with Xtabentun Mayan liquor.

To celebrate this ode to Mexico's most famous cocktail, Velas Resorts in Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta, Riviera Maya and Riviera Nayarit offer their special margarita recipes that you can make and enjoy at home.
