Mexico City - Polish President Andrzej Duda and his wife on Sunday began an official visit to Mexico on Sunday, aimed at developing trade relations between the two countries.

Four interdepartmental and seven economic contracts – related to economic cooperation, investment support and investment loans – are expected to be signed during the trip, including some between the Polish Agency for Investment and Trade (PAIH) and the Mexican ProMexico Investment Promotion Agency.

PAIH is also expected to open its Mexico City office during the visit.

The trip "is going to be the first in a series of presidential visits aimed to promote Polish entrepreneurship and Polish companies abroad," a top aide at the Polish presidential office, Krzysztof Szczerski, said ahead of the visit.

This is the first official trip to Mexico by a Polish head of state in the history of the bilateral relations between the two countries.

"For Polish companies, Mexico is an interesting country with a large [import and export] market with an industry whose structure is similar to that in Poland. Meanwhile, investments and trade are currently at a minimum," said Tomasz Pisula, the head of PAIH.

He also said that the automotive companies in Poland, which export to other European Union countries, can also collaborate with the automotive sector throughout North America, including Mexico.

During the visit in Mexico, President Duda will meet Mexican president Enrique Pena Nieto, and will address the two houses of the Mexican parliament.

"It is important to present Poland as a country that is active on the international stage," Krzysztof Szczerski said.
