Vallarta Institute of Musical Arts Summer Concerts

May 26, 2017

The Salty Paw Jazz Orchestra, Vallarta's first and only youth-based jazz orchestra, will return to The Jazz Foundation on June 4 at 7 pm, for another presentation in their First-Sunday-Of-The-Month concert series.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - The Instituto Artes Musicales de Puerto Vallarta (IAM PV) recently announced the first two performances of its summer concert series.

First up is the Salty Paw Jazz Orchestra, a student band of more than 20 members directed by Chris Flores, who will be returning to The Jazz Foundation on Sunday, June 4 at 7:00 pm for the fourth presentation in their First-Sunday-of-the-Month concert series.

La Orquesta de Jazz Pata Salada is the first youth-based jazz orchestra in the history of Puerto Vallarta and, on this occasion, they'll be playing a selection of Swing, Blues and Rock and Roll in the style of a Big Band orchestra.

The Jazz Foundation is located at Allende 116, El Centro, Puerto Vallarta, just a few feet off the Malecón and across the street from La Bodegita del Medio. A Supporting Fee of $100 pesos will be collected at the door in lieu of a cover charge, and will be donated directly to the band.

Then, on Friday, June 9th from 8 pm until 11 pm, IAM PV will present "Tertulia Orquestal," an evening with the Puerto Vallarta Chamber Orchestra at Los Mangos Library.

The Chamber Orchestra, directed by Daniel Oliveros and composed of only strings and an electronic harpsichord, will perform works by Henry Purcell, Joseph Haydn and Peter Warlock of the baroque, classical and romantic periods in a musical journey through time.

This evening will be an occasion to relax and enjoy, in company or in solitude, an intimate encounter and moment of reflection without the formality of a concert. Attendees are invited to read a book from the library, walk around or chat with the musicians while enjoying the music, a glass of wine and a selection of complimentary cheeses. Additional alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase. Tickets cost $150 pesos and are available at the library.

Event proceeds will help the Institute of Musical Arts finance the educational and musical projects that comprise it, such as the Initial Orchestral Programs or the Folk Music Program of the DIF system. For more information about the IAM PV's educational programs, call 322-131-8800, open registrations.

In addition, part of the evening's proceeds will be donated to Los Mangos to help them with their efforts to promote culture, share information, support education and encourage the love of reading.

Biblioteca Los Mangos is located at Av. Francisco Villa 1001, Col Versalles, Puerto Vallarta. To learn more about the library's weekly courses and workshops for children, teens and adults, call (322) 224-9966, send an email to losmangoslibrary(at)gmail.com or visit BibliotecaLosMangos.com.
