Act II Announces Next Big Musical Production: 'Xanadu'

July 7, 2017

Act II STAGES is located in the Zona Romantica, on the corner of Insurgentes and Basilio Badillo, just a short stroll from the beach on the South side of Puerto Vallarta. For more info, call (322) 222-1512.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - Act II Entertainment continues to Rock the Summer in Puerto Vallarta. Between the premier of several brand-new shows, some of the best voices in PV gathering in Encore Lounge every Wednesday night to sing at Bob's Karaoke Party, and the new 'Spotlight on Vallarta' series of cabaret acts wowing audiences, there's always something fun happening at STAGES!

In addition to all of this, Danny Mininni and his creative team are busy making preparations for the Winter season's incredible line-up of entertainment. Between producing new shows and holding auditions to play the roles, they say that Summer is flying by and shows no sign of slowing down.

In fact, Danny recently announced that auditions for Act II's next big musical production, the hit Broadway musical, Xanadu, which is scheduled to open in January 2018, will be held at STAGES on Saturday, July 15 at 5:00 pm.

Xanadu: The Musical
"Heaven on Wheels, and in Leg Warmers!"

A musical spoof of the cult classic movie of the same name, Xanadu: The Musical follows the journey of a magical and beautiful Greek muse, Kira, who descends from the heavens of Mt. Olympus to Venice Beach, California in 1980, on a quest to inspire a struggling artist, Sonny, to create the greatest artistic achievement of all time: a roller-disco. When Kira falls into forbidden love with the mortal Sonny, her jealous sisters take advantage of the situation and chaos abounds. This hilarious, roller skating romp about following your dreams despite the limitations others set for you, rolls along to the original hit score composed by pop-rock legends Jeff Lynne and John Farrar, interwoven by a moving, electrifying book of endless fun penned by one of Broadway's master storytellers, Douglas Carter Beane. You'll want to keep the music in your head, and Xanadu in your heart, forever!

If this sounds like something you were 'born to do,' come to the Act II Entertainment complex on July 15 and audition for a part. All roles are open.

Character Breakdown:

Kira (Clio): The youngest of the Zeus's daughters and the muses, who falls in love with Sonny. Pretty. Adventurous. Speaks with a fake/bad Australian accent for most of the show. Needs to roller skate. Age Range 18-30

Sonny Malone: A self-critical, mortal, chalk artist who falls in love with Kira (Clio). Handsome. Very 80's. Needs to roller skate. Age Range 18-30

Danny Maguire (Zeus): The hard-nosed businessman who owns Xanadu theater. Age Range 40-65

Calliope (Aphrodite): Kira's jealous sister and fellow muse who plots against her. Strong comedic role.

Melpomene (Medusa): Kira's oldest sister, who creates the plot for Kira's downfall out of jealousy. Strong comedic role.

All Roles Below Can Be Played by Male or Female:

Erato (Siren, Andrews Sister, Eros, Hera): One of Kira's older sisters and fellow muse.

Euterpe (Siren, Andrew's Sister, Thetis): One of Kira's older sisters and fellow muse.

Terpsicore (Siren, Tubes Singer, Hermes, Centaur): One of Kira's older sisters and another fellow muse.

Thalia (Siren, Young Danny, Tubes Singer, Cyclops): One of Kira's older sisters and yet another fellow muse.

And there's still a whole lot more in store for Puerto Vallarta audiences this Summer!

"UsTwo" Makes Stage Debut in The Red Room
Saturday, July 22 at 7:30 pm

Act II is excited to welcome the amazing musical duo, "UsTwo," for the first time on its stage on Saturday, July 22, at 7:30 pm. Although new to Act II, UsTwo is definitely NOT new to the music scene. The beautiful Noemi Plasencia is from Guadalajara and studied at the Conservatory of Music at the University of Guadalajara. Daniel Celis is from Cordoba, Veracruz and studied at the Conservatory of Music in Querétaro. Both Noemi and Daniel sang in various bands around Mexico, but in 2012, Noemi and Daniel discovered each other and melded their incredible talents, creating an amazing chemistry together!

UsTwo has performed in many parts of Mexico, as well as the United States and Canada. They specialize in singing re-mastered arrangements of classic favorites and are much in demand at many of the major hotels in Puerto Vallarta, including the Sheraton, Garza Blanca, Vidanta, the Marriott and the Four Seasons, among others.

People are raving about the absolute beauty of their sound.

Lynn from Calgary wrote, "As soon as Danny and Noemi started singing, mouths opened, jaws dropped, and people said, 'Wow!'"

Another fan said, "This show is sure to be a hit! Noemi and Daniel are a class act and have it all... they are both beautiful, talented, classy, and nice people, as well!"

More Projects in Store at Act II

We are looking forward to more cabaret shows later this summer, featuring the return of Gabe Arcineaga, Trinity, Emperatriz Valles, and 2017 The Voice of Vallarta finalist Diana Villamontes and "Who's That Girl," Kami Desilets! We are also excited to welcome back Puerto Vallarta favorite, Joby Hernandez, for his first cabaret show since his devastating accident earlier this year!
