PV Chef to 'Give Back' at AIDS Foundation Oscars Party

January 11, 2018

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - Giving back to the community is nothing new for Puerto Vallarta Chef and Nutritional Trainer Victor Guevara. He has been doing this for years in his home city of San Luis Potosi, purchasing and delivering toys as "Santa Claus" to homeless children in need.

So when Puerto Vallarta expat Chef Wayne Elias tapped Guevara last year to volunteer his culinary skills at Hollywood's Elton John AIDS Foundation Oscar Party, (that Elias' company has catered for a dozen years) Guevara answered the call without hesitation.

He commented, "It was an honor to offer my services in the kitchen, along-side such talented chefs like Elias and Gordon Ramsay; especially for a charity that has raised hundreds of millions of dollars world-wide for decades."

Those that reside in Puerto Vallarta, whether seasonally or full-time, have had the opportunity to experience his cooking skills on many occasions, whether for small, intimate dinners or large gatherings.

Victor Guevara was born on September 16, 1991 in the beautiful, colonial city of San Luis Potosi. The son of loving parents, he grew up under the wings of his mother Amelia Guevara, while his father traveled extensively for work.

Guevara commented, "Since childhood I was interested in the kitchen helping my mother to develop recipes handed down from her mother and grandmother."

He got his first "professional" job as a Chef's understudy at the young age of 14, helping in a restaurant kitchen that was just across the street from his home. At 17 years of age he finished up his High School studies. He then embarked on a journey to Mexico City to study what he liked most, the kitchen and culinary creations. There at the Culinary Institute of Mexico he not only learned how to improve on his family recipes, but a whole new gastronomic world opened up to him.

Victor's first formal residency occurred at the intimate San Luis Potosi King Inn Restaurant. He became a protégé of the owner, who also had a ranch where he bred and raised wild animals such as boar and deer. This led Guevara to continue his education and further improve his cooking technique in wild game preparation.

Now, for the past four years he has traveled between San Luis Potosi and the world famous Pacific resort city of Puerto Vallarta, in the State of Jalisco, Mexico. It is here that he has worked as a private chef for several celebrities and renowned entrepreneurs.

With the Oscars set for March 4, 2018 Guevara is eager to once again volunteer his services in helping others at the 2018 Elton John soirée in Hollywood. Says Guevara, "My passion is to please my clients through unique dishes that both satisfy one's hunger and more importantly please the palate - eating SHOULD be an emotionally gratifying experience. And, if I have done my job successfully, the memory will last a lifetime!"
