But if you happen to be in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico on February 22, you won't have to travel to Seville to see a live performance, as Teatro Vallarta presents the Compañía de Baile Flamenco Jaleo in Café Sevilla.

Flamenco is a Spanish art form made up of three parts: guitarra (guitar), cante (song), and baile (dance) that evoke a passion, temperament and energy that unfolds with every stomp of the dancer's feet, strum of the musician's guitar, and clap of the singer's hands.

Through a mixture of native and gypsy musical styles, this form of artistic expression can be traced as far back as 700 A.D., but it didn't really 'take off' in Spain until the early nineteenth century. Dubbed the 'Golden Age of Flamenco,' this period, from 1869 to 1910, saw the appearance of Cafes Cantantes, cafés and bars in which the art of flamenco song and dance flourished.

Today, Teatro Vallarta and La Compañía de Baile Flamenco Jaleo offer Puerto Vallarta audiences the opportunity to experience the passion and beauty of this traditional art form through Café Sevilla, an outstanding production that is not only beautiful, but extremely moving.
