Act II Welcomes Las Vegas Songstress Michelle Johnson

March 12, 2018

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico - Las Vegas' First Lady of Jazz, Michelle Johnson, will be hitting the Act II Red Room stage on March 19th, with her new show, "Spotlight: The Music of Icons."

Michelle's soaring vocals and ability to engage an audience in a dynamic, personal and intimate way have made her a favorite in cabarets and performing arts centers nationwide. And yes, she's good friends with another Las Vegas/Vallarta favorite, Lorena Peril! These ladies both share a phenomenal drive and talent that has propelled them to the top of their industry.

Michelle has had the privilege of singing with David Cassidy, Rosalind Cash, Lesley Gore, Paul Rogers (Bad Company), the Platters and many more! She performed with Sugarland at the AMC Awards on CBS and performs the National Anthem for the NBA, NASCAR and other professional sporting events.

In her new show, 'Spotlight: The Music of Icons,' Michelle will sing the hit songs of celebrity artists from around the world. Her personal experiences singing with these top artists make the music even more meaningful. This lady has the brains, talent and confidence to provide the ultimate evening of world class entertainment. She goes far beyond singing and gives her audience the true experience of musical entertainment!

Ms. Johnson is a powerhouse. She has led a life in and out of the spotlight, but her immense talent as a singer/performer has consistently given her amazing opportunities to share her gift with audiences around the world.

As an accomplished singer/songwriter, Michelle is releasing a new album, has co-authored an inspirational book, Power of the Platform, is currently writing a book about the music industry and is in the process of creating a non-profit music therapy foundation. And that's when she's not performing on stage!

Her acclaimed Carole King tribute show, 'Tapestry Unraveled,' has been highly praised by critics, and she is well known for her work as backup singer for some the world's top musical artists. Her new show, 'Spotlight,' has debuted in Las Vegas to excellent reviews.

Michelle Johnson is at the top of her game, and what she enjoys most when she is in front of an audience is communicating the message behind the music that she loves. "We all can feel joy, or pain, or yearning. We are all the same inside," Johnson says. "I look out at an audience and I see different faces, but I see a similarity in the look in their eyes when a song hits them a certain way. I love watching that moment."

A regular at Myron's Cabaret Jazz, inside the prestigious Smith Center in Las Vegas, Michelle Johnson can belt out tunes of all genres like nobody's business. She is the singer/performer that we all wish for when we go to the box office to get our tickets for that special night out.

Michelle has lived a full and interesting life. She grew up in Egypt, with her father stationed as a Liberian diplomat. He knew many world leaders, who were frequent guests at the Johnson's embassy residence. Attending an international school, she remembers winning a debate tournament in Athens, and competing in a Model United Nations tournament at The Hague in the Netherlands.

Although Michelle's parents encouraged a love of music in her, they wanted her to uphold the prestigious family pedigree, so she entered Yale as an undergraduate with plans to become a lawyer like her brothers. "That world of dignitaries and lawyers and businessmen was all I knew," she says.

At Yale, she discovered the school's outstanding drama and musical departments. She joined a singing group and immersed herself in performing opportunities in musicals and cabarets. She knew then that she had found her calling.

"I graduated and didn't even take the LSAT," she says. "I knew what I wanted, and I knew I would have to move to New York to pursue my dreams." Her talent and versatility quickly led to recording and/or performing with artists of many genres, including legends such as Paul McCartney, Gladys Knight, Sheena Easton, Barbra Streisand and Elton John. Michelle even achieved her dream of performing in a Broadway show and in various plays in New York and other cities.

Eventually moving to Las Vegas to take advantage of numerous performing opportunities, Johnson has thrived in a town of incredible competition and talent. She's become renowned there for her work in the jazz genre, which in turn led to the moniker her fans gave her as "Las Vegas' First Lady of Jazz," but she continues to sing in a variety of styles and regularly plays to sold out houses.

Michelle Johnson will perform 'Spotlight: The Music of Icons,' on March 19, 20, 22 and 24 at 7:30 pm in The Red Room at Act II STAGES. This is the caliber of show that you know you want to see, so go to actiientertainment.com to get your tickets today. Don't miss this one, folks!
