Select Ballet to Perform 'Bolero' at Teatro Vallarta

June 11, 2018

Make plans now to see Bolero at Teatro Vallarta on Saturday, June 16, 8:00 pm. Ticket price range from $385 to $605 pesos (VIP seating), and can be purchased at the bos office or online via teatrovallarta.com.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - The Compagnie François Mauduit Select Ballet Company will be performing Bolero for one night only, Saturday, June 16, 8:00 pm, in the beautiful Teatro Vallarta performing arts venue. Featuring the most distinguished of French ballet dancers, this prestigious ballet company has performed in the most important theaters in the world.

In an interview with Notimex, Angelica del Rey, the dance troupe's spokesperson in Mexico, said that the Select Ballet will offer, for the first time in Mexico, a show that offers audiences a varied repertoire that fuses classical and tradition dance with contemporary avant-garde trends that showcase the dancers' technical and athletic abilities.

In this show François Mauduit honors the creative geniuses of the 20th century. Creating his own version of well-known ballets, Mauduit pays tribute to George Balanchine and the famous choreographer Maurice Béjart, initiator of neoclassical dance in Europe.

According to Del Ray, 'Bolero' is an original proposal of neoclassical ballet set to a compilation of emblematic works, a bouquet of pieces that the public is very familiar with, and perhaps, are among their favorites. The spokeswoman cited some titles, including Samson and Delilah, Madame Bovary, Chaikovski Concerto, Quant on a l'amour and Bolero, classical pieces that, when intervened with the choreography of Maudit, will add a new dimension to the Teatro Vallarta stage, where work on the set and lighting elements has already begun.

"It is about the representation of important works, the most recognized and loved by the public, in a new proposal. The idea is to generate a more common approach that gives people a better understanding of the authors of these pieces, through a group of talented artists that gives life to the show," the Ballet Selecto representative enthused.

With more than 10 years of experience and a series of tours throughout the European Continent, this will be the first time that François Maudit's company steps foot on American soil, with Mexico being the chosen destination. "The troupe's presence here is also due to its participation in a dance festival that will begin on June 15 in Guadalajara; from there it will come to Puerto Vallarta before continuing on to Mexico City, and finally to Puebla," Del Rey explained.

Since this tour does not include live music, only 20 artists and creative assistants will travel to Mexico, of which only 12 men and women will be presented on stage. The men are all very handsome and dashing, and the women, very beautiful. "They all have the classic dancer's profile: tall, slender and stylized, with long necks and aesthetic bodies that are pleasing to the eye."

The interviewee talked about how the production's wardrobe changes and lighting are used to create several settings. "The human body, the corporal expression, is, however, where the greatest visual impact is found; that means that what the public admires is not 'contaminated' with curtains or saturated scenographies."

The Select Ballet is a very closely-knit company. The concepts of communication and teamwork are of utmost importance, so there is no 'Star of the Show'. Instead the entire group is recognized, and that is what has given it international fame. "In this way it is possible to transmit to viewers of all ages what the choreography tries to express," concluded Angelica del Rey.

The Compagnie François Mauduit Select Ballet Company's presentation of "Bolero" gives expats, gives everyone the opportunity to enjoy a world-class ballet performance without having to travel to Guadalajara or Mexico City. Come support the arts in Banderas Bay!
