Mérida to Host Tianguis Turístico México in 2020

March 18, 2019

Tianguis Turístico is the largest tourism showcase in all of Mexico, attracting hundreds of local exhibitors, and thousands of international buyers every year. In 2020 Mérida will host Mexico's most important travel industry event.

Mexico City - Mexican officials announced on March 14, 2019 that the 2020 edition of the annual Tianguis Turistico international tourism fair would be hosted in Merida, Yucatan.

According to The Yucatan Times, the organizing committee voted 11-1 in favor of Merida as the hosting venue for Tianguis Turistico Mexico 2020, with Mexico City earning the only other vote.

Local officials in the Yucatan believe the event will bring influential tourism decision-makers to the region, increasing the economic impact from the fair and the area as a whole after attendees see what the destination can offer to travelers.

Acapulco was the official venue for Mexico's most important travel industry event from its inception in 1975 until 2012, when organizers decided to take it to different locations. Since then, several tourist destinations have hosted the annual tourism fair, which brings around 500 million pesos to the host city each year.

Last year, the Pacific Coast city of Mazatlán hosted the annual event, and this year it will return to Acapulco in April. 2020 will be the first time the Tianguis Turistico will be held in the Yucatan.

Tianguis is the largest tourism showcase in all of Mexico, attracting hundreds of national exhibitors, and thousands of international buyers every year. The event is also open to the public, providing locals and frequent visitors with the knowledge they need to visit other parts of the country. Still, the main objective remains to put Mexico first and foremost in the global marketplace for tourism.
