Puerto Vallarta - On Thursday, February 9th, at 5 PM, a large group of Richard Kaplan's friends and loved ones gathered together to bid him good-bye. It was a beautiful day, just the kind Richard would have ordered. We were at the El Dorado Restaurant, which is owned by the son of Guillermo Wolff, who was a top developer in Vallarta - and a great friend of Richard's.

People who were in town from Arizona, California Wisconsin, Illinois, New Mexico, and Texas and many who live right here in Vallarta were present to Celebrate the Life of Richard Kaplan. There were plenty of flowers and pictures of Richard from all stages of his life on display, and tapes of his beautiful music were available for those who wanted to have a little piece of him.

Rev. Monty Merrell gave a beautiful sermon, and invited several of us to come forward to say our good byes. The presence of his many wives and girlfriends, {including myself,} reminded me of an old comedy movie called "Goodbye Charlie." But this was Richard's life... living it at its fullest.

He did not need to ever say "I wish I had..." - because he had done it all! I have no doubt that Richard was there, overseeing the whole ceremony, and loving every minute of it. A very touching moment was when someone introduced "a lady who loved him just as much as any of the wives and girlfriends," which was Marcie, his long time and devoted maid. She had written a beautiful poem for Richard, which was translated into English for us.

At the end of the ceremony, we raised our glasses to our Mayor of Margaritaville, our real estate guru, our beautiful musician, our lover of life, our spiritual minister. He gave us so much. We shall never forget... and to make sure we don't, BanderasNews video journalist, Laura Gelezunas captured the memories of some of Richard's closest friends.
