"The Passion of Christ" Art Exhibition will be on display through April 16th at Gallery Sol y Luna. For more information call 222-1302 or visit solylunapv.com.
Sol y Luna Art Gallery Director, Alejandro Baez, invites you to an art exhibition about the Passion of Christ, featuring paintings, sculptures and photography by Jose Luis Bueno, Roberto Colgan, Victor Hugo Vera and Rafael Miranda San Juan.

The exhibition will be on display through April 16th, but in celebration of Holy Week here in Vallarta, Gallery Sol y Luna Art for the Uninhibited, located at Lazaro Cardenas 230 in the Romantic Zone, will be hosting a cocktail reception on April 6th from 6-10 pm.

One of the talented artists whose works are part of this special exhibition is sculptor Rafael Miranda of Havana, Cuba. Rafael has combined his talents in ceramics and sculpture with his studies in human anatomy to create terra cotta pieces that capture the dynamic grace, beauty, and energy of the human body.

Using thick layers of texture and varying shades of color and patinas to produce sculptures that feel as though they have been unearthed from antiquity. They are enigmatic, fascinating, and refreshingly earthy.

In the artists own words, "I believe that clay (is) the first born material in the history of Humanity and Art. These sculptures begin like this, in ceramics, the character del barro, a historical material par excellence, where man, ever since he was man, because he was a man, modeled the first figure, formed the first plate, and built the first permanent house. This noble material is forged in a fire at high temperatures; the engoves, oxidation and pigmentation which accompany this process giving us the final result that we see."

Rafael graduated from the Academia de Bells Artes in San Alejandro. He did his graduate work in Human Anatomy, Film Art Design, Scenic Design, Monumental Sculptures and Ceramics. He has exhibited in Cuba; Rio de Janeio, Philadelphia, and Tapalpa, Guadalajara, and now here in Puerto Vallarta at Gallery Sol y Luna.
