Isn't it beautiful in February with the light, sky, water and mountains?

Weather cold fronts have been colliding in my living-room during January. Cold winds from the Guadalajara mountainous area on one side of the fairly open house and cool breezes from Banderas Bay on the other side. The house is finally beginning to warm up. No more winter-weather dressing! And maybe all of the sneezing, wheezing and coughing all around town will cease soon, too.

Isn't it beautiful now as usual in February with the light, sky, water and mountains? With an early Easter, so many high season residents already are making plans to head north then. The earlier than usual out-migration affects businesses... already not usual this high season, with tourism reported down, up to estimates I've heard of 20 percent. Well, the worldwide economy seems to be on a roller coaster.

Beautiful music is in store for us with musician/vocalist David Lyons in an upcoming concert. His mellow sounds can be heard on March 11th at Santa Barbara Theater. If you love Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, even John Denver, you will want to be there. Performing with him will be superb guitarist Rigoberto Mora and other well-known musicians. For reservations, call the theater at 223-2048. A CD will be recorded of the concert. It will be available early next high season with a big celebration, donations going to charity. Meanwhile, catch David on Fridays from 7-10 pm at Garbo's piano bar on Pulpito.

Entertainer Sol Rose opens February 16th in the original Stop the World at Santa Barbara Theater. Sol followed Anthony Newley and Sammy Davis Jr., on Broadway in the show. The musical with Patrice White, Kathy Overly and Christopher May runs through March 22nd. Tickets already are moving rapidly.

Sol, after all of his sold-out shows this season, hears from some fans saying he should have a theater here named after him. Sol... and so dear Sol... says he needs a building! Many keep saying we need a centrally-located performing arts center here. We are waiting for some philanthropists to come forward, to work with the government, and to lead a fund raising drive, if necessary. It will happen... with the kinds of quality residents Puerto Vallarta is attracting.

Denver performer Alex Ryer garnered many compliments for her musical shows. She already is making plans for performing here next year.

We want to compliment Sylvia at Santa Barbara Theater for her graciousness with customers.

Tickets are available now for Vallarta's and New York City's Dana and Mark Zeller's benefit of Broadway songs for Clinca de Rehabilitation Santa Barbara. Musical performances are March 3rd, 4th, 10th, and 11th at the Cathy von Rohr Galeria-Studio. Individual ticket price is $250 pesos (USD $25). For tickets and information, call Dana Zeller-Alexis at 223-2697.

Valentine's Day high tea and fashion show are from 4-6 pm on February 14th at Puerta del Cielo, Miramar 363, benefiting care of local animals. Tickets of $350 pesos are available at Hacienda San Angel (222-2692).

Another The Secret workshop of Larry Sheldon, former IBM training executive, is underway. He'll accept you yet for the second class, but not beyond. Held on Thursday in a private room at Boca Bento Restaurant on Basilio Badillo. Email larry(at)blubylen.com for information.

Be sure to attend an Informe of New Life Mexico and DIF Puerto Vallarta (social services) on February 29th from 10 am -12 noon at the Krystal Hotel. You'll hear of the many programs working with children, including street children. My eyes are opened wide with looking at the programs. You surely will want to know some of this, too. So we'll see you there.

On March 12th, a benefit dinner will be at Boca Bento, 180 Basilio Badillo, for New Life Mexico. Tickets are $500 pesos per person. For tickets, call Margaret L'Ecuyer, a dedicated New Life Mexico program person, at 222-6804 or 044-322-134-1645.

Check out the website HealthCareResourcesPV.com for local healthcare information.

Artist and jewelry designer Carol Anne Anderson has a number of classes during February. If you want to participate, call her at 224-0879.

More than 100 attendees enjoyed breakfast, conversation, networking and assisting Vallarta Enfrenta el SIDA, addressing issues of HIV/AIDS in Puerto Vallarta, at the monthly community Breakfast Club. More information is at VallartaEnfrentaSida.org. Paul Crist is president of the organization.

Take a look at those lavender planters in front of Toody Walton's La Bohemia clothing and accessories store on Constitucion. A fun store... a fun owner.

Bette Midler at 62 is starting a two-year run of her new energetic show at Ceasar's Palace in Las Vegas. We women and other fans probably need to check out her show. What an example!
