Challenge to Seek Out a Grand Adventure
email this pageprint this pageemail usJOY! - PVNN

He who is not courageous enough to take risks will accomplish nothing in life.
- Muhammad Ali

As part of my commitment to a no regrets life, I travel the world having outrageous grand adventures and writing about them so my readers can live vicariously through me.

People tell me how lucky I am to live the way I do, seeing the things I see, having such rich experiences.

I echo the words of my dear old Mum and tell them "We make our own luck."

I choose to live this 'bonus life' I've been gifted, in glorious techni-colour, unashamedly pushing the boundaries of my pleasure in all directions. Don't be envious; you can make the same commitment to yourself to whatever degree is most comfortable for you!

In my long walks with death I realised that I didn't regret anything I had done so much as what I had left undone. We always think we'll do it later, when we have more time or money, or less commitments or challenges. But all too often we just don't get around to it, and when we look again the opportunity has passed us by.

You don't have to travel the world to have grand adventures, especially not when you live in Puerto Vallarta! Recently, I pushed my body to climb way past where I thought I could go, and was rewarded by seeing Golden Eagles soar below me from my perch on a mountain peak at La Bufa.

I opened my mind to a different way of celebrating God and experienced a profoundly moving ancient religious ceremony in San Sebastian.

I was chased by a baby tiger who wanted to eat my shoe, wrestled a three and a half month old black jaguar who was trying to climb my leg, and had my face licked by a black bear at the Vallarta Zoo to kick start my new adventure segment on BanderasNews.

I also climbed a tree, made a baby giggle, danced in the street because the music moved me, and helped mend a friend's broken heart – grand adventures don't have to be life threatening, thank goodness!

They do usually require you to do things you might not otherwise have done: To find courage and time and extra effort you may not think you have until you commit to it. I've found it is always worth it, even just so you don't ever look back and say "Darn, I wish I had've..."

So your challenge this week is to seek out a grand adventure. Push your limits, choose something that will require more of you, maybe even something you don't know if you can do, but always wanted to try. Let me know what happens.
