PV First Baptist Church News: Spring '08
email this pageprint this pageemail usPVNN

In the summer of 2006, we advised everyone of a need for funds to help build a Children's Center with the Salvation Army. As you read this, the building is becoming a reality. About 6000 sq ft on the first floor, with a three bedroom apartment above are expected to be finished by late Spring.

Funds will be needed to finish and outfit this building. To help with this, you can purchase an engraved decorative brick with up to 26 letters or characters for $250 USD - a great way to honor those important to you, and help the future of these children.

Bi-weekly visits to the orphanage, weekly purchase of food and cleaning supplies for the orphanage, rice and beans deliveries to the dump area, helping at the Salvation Army Day Center with homework, feeding, and crafts, have been on-going during the tourist season and will continue throughout the summer months.

Christmas-at-the Dump for 600+ families, quilts and blankets sewn and distributed by the Thursday morning sewing group, plus smaller, more individual visits and projects kept many folks focusing on others less fortunate throughout the winter.

Vern Sorensen will be preaching for the remainder of the spring and summer season while Don and Dianne take a much needed sabbatical until the end of July. All programs will continue as normal.

Quilters will again be needing:
• Handmade baby sweaters (for layettes)
• New and used sheets
• Large pieces of fabric

Continuous Other needs:
• Backpacks
• School supplies of all kinds
• Working lap-top computers (used)
• Children's and baby clothes - all sizes
• Children's vitamins

Remember: When entering Mexico by plane, you are permitted to bring $300 USD in gifts per person - $50 by car.
