El Arrayán chef Mariano Valdés will be sharing some of his secrets during a series of cooking classes this summer. Space is limited, so call 222-7195 for reservations.

Puerto Vallarta - Four time winner of the Virtual Vallarta Readers Choice Awards for "Best Mexican Restaurant," El Arrayán, is offering two final cooking classes for residents and visitors wishing to learn authentic Mexican recipes and cooking techniques.

As part of the Bahía de Banderas Slow Food movement, the cooking classes focus on educating participants on the history and origin of the dishes, as well as the importance of using quality ingredients purchased from local vendors.

The Slow Food movement seeks to defend biodiversity in the food supply, spread the education of taste, and link producers of excellent foods to consumers through events and initiatives.

The final classes will take place on Monday, August 11th and Monday, September 22nd. There are limited spaces for these events and reservations are required.

Each class provides hands-on instruction in creating traditional Mexican dishes. The classes meet at 10 am at El Arrayán Restaurant, where attendees will enjoy breakfast at a popular breakfast restaurant and a trip to the local produce market.

Afterwards, attendees will receive hands-on class participation, take-home printed recipes, an embroidered chef's apron and a full lunch at El Arrayán (including one cocktail and Mexican wine.) Classes will be conducted in English. The fee for this introduction to Mexican cooking techniques and ingredients is $750 pesos per-person (cash only, tips included.)

Recipes for the August class are as follows:

• Shrimp and Mango Aguachile
• Famous Mexican Traditional Chile en Nogada
• Mexican Chocolate Flan

Call 222-7195 after 6 pm to reserve your space. There are limited spaces for these events. Reservations are required (Classes will only take place with a minimum of five participants.)

El Arrayán is located at 344 Allende, just a short stroll from the Malecón in downtown Puerto Vallarta. For more information, click HERE, or visit ElArrayan.com.mx.
