Making Joaquin's Dreams Come True

Each one of the children that we have had the pleasure to meet through Make-A-Wish Mexico has a story that can teach all of us something about life.

Puerto Vallarta - Make-A-Wish Mexico, an affiliate of Make-A-Wish International, creates moments of hope and happiness to fulfill the wishes of Mexican children with life-threatening medical conditions.

The Puerto Vallarta Chapter of Make a Wish was formed by New Mexico's former Make a Wish Foundation Vice President, Bob Mandel, who set up Mexico's corporate headquarters right here in Puerto Vallarta in November of 2000.

The joy of bringing a smile to a dying child's face and a twinkle to their eyes in the midst of suffering is Make-A-Wish Mexico's goal, and here in Puerto Vallarta, local residents and businesses alike have taken their mission to heart.

Each one of the children that we have had the pleasure to meet through Make-A-Wish has a story that can teach all of us something about life. Take for example, Joaquin.

Joaquin is a 6 year old boy with Leukemia. When he was a baby, he was adopted by a great family who has given him all the love he needs to keep on fighting. He, in turn, loves his family and is always showing others he cares about them.

The day we met Joaquin, he said that his only wish was to have a Play Station Portable and to have lunch at Kentucky Fried Chicken with his family.

When preparing his wish, Make A Wish Mexico was invited to enjoy Mario Ivan Martinez in his play "Un Rato Para Imaginar" - what a great way to enrich the wish of this brave kid!

Joaquin was invited to the Polyforum Cultural Siqueiros to see the play and he loved it! When it was over, our great friend Mario Ivan Martinez gave him all the gifts we had for him: a t-shirt, a cap, and of course his "PSP."

Next Joaquin, his family and our friends: Elynor, Rodner and Francis went to have lunch at Kentucky Fried Chicken. Afterwards, Joaquin said that he enjoyed every single minute of his special day with his family and that this day gave him the strength to keep on going.

Helping to fulfill the wish of a child is an extremely powerful and gratifying experience, and you can help make some wishes come true. If you would like to be a volunteer, make a much needed donation or refer a child for a wish, please call (322) 222-911, write us at info(at)makeawishmexico.org.mx or visit MakeaWishMexico.org.mx.
