The Costa Banderas Chapter has had a quiet summer, typical in this hot, humid and rainy beach town. With many members away for the summer, event planning and fund raising has slowed.

However, plans are underway to re-group. At least one fund raiser will be held in conjunction with the presidential Debates, and an Election Night Celebration and Fundraiser will be held at a private home on November 4, to celebrate the landslide win we know Barack Obama will have on that night!

With the return of members and residents beginning in late October, plans are also underway to begin a Chapter Book Club, Among the books planned for reading and discussion are Vicente Fox’s book, Revolution of Hope and Naomi Wolf's The End of America.

Progress on the get-out-the-vote (GOTV) effort is well underway, led by Chapter treasurer Susan Wichterman. Business-sized cards are being distributed by members to both remind voters and to provide contact information and online resources including VoteFromAbroad.org.

The cards are in Spanish and English, encouraging English-speaking expats to request absentee ballots and encouraging Mexican-Americans who are eligible to vote to register with our assistance and vote.

Several local English-language news sources are assisting our efforts by regularly publishing submitted articles and press releases. These include the online BanderasNews, the Vallarta Tribune and Vallarta Today.

GOTV volunteers will be on hand at the Mailboxes Etc. store every Wednesday through October 1, 2008 to assist voters with registration and absentee ballot requests.

Costa Banderas Vice Chair Larry Canady, has resigned due to his moving to San Miguel, where he is already actively assisting efforts in that Chapter. We wish Larry all the best in his new town!
