AMPI Holds 37th Annual Conference in Mayan Riviera
email this pageprint this pageemail usJohn K. Glaab - PVNN

Eduardo Mendoza, Vice President of AMPI La Paz, Toni Kuri of AMPI D.F., Jorge Cantero of NAR Miami, and Linda Neil of AMPI La Paz and AMPI National Advisory Board member.
The thirty-seventh annual AMPI Conference and Annual Meeting was held recently at the Xcaret Resort in the Mayan Riviera, in the state of Quintana Roo.

Current President of AMPI's National Advisory Board, Sergio Duenas of Guadalajara, speaking to the assembly.
Among the highlights of the event were welcoming words from President Felipe Calderon, delivered by Carlos Gutierrez, Director Nacional de la Vivienda (Housing) and presentations by former National Association of Realtors (NAR) Chief Economist and always entertaining, John Tucillo "The Eight New Rules of Real Estate", Bruce Greenberg, an appraiser and real estate consultant from Tucson, Arizona "The U.S. Recession and Its Impact on Mexico" and a panel of Spanish investors addressing the topic, "Investing in Mexico."

Other events included NAR courses "Doing Business in Mexico "and the CIPS course "Financial Investment and Analysis in International Real Estate" and a CCIM presentation by Charles McClure, President of the CCIM Institute. Vicki Cox Gelder 2008 NAR Vice president also addressed the meeting. (Elena Carrillo, International Strategic Accounts Manager for NAR, also attended the Conference.) Tours of several real estate developments in Cancun and the Riviera Maya were conducted as a part of the Conference.

Daily networking sessions were conducted by Linda Neil, a member of AMPI's National Advisory Board and AMPI Los Cabos. On a personal note, it was great for me to renew acquaintances with Alston and Barbara Boyd from Austin, Texas. I met them in February 2003, at the first Annual Resort Marketing Forum Los Cabos. That event was a joint AMPI Los Cabos/NAR endeavour. I served as on site coordinator. Since then it has become an annual program for NAR I did not see the Boyds again until the Texas Association of Realtors/AMPI Trade Mission in Guadalajara in October, 2008. Along with others they presented a portfolio of real estate projects.

Ten new members of the National Advisory Board were elected at the Annual Meeting. Pedro Trueba of Mexico City, AMPI's 2008 Vice President, will take over the reins in 2009 from our current President Sergio Duenas of Guadalajara. Sergio presented his final report including his meetings at the FIABCI World Congress in Amsterdam and at the National Association of Realtors Annual Conference where he met privately with Pierre Beauchamp Chief Executive Office of the Canadian Real Estate Association. Hector Obregon Salado was elected Vice President of AMPI for 2009. Hector AMPI's current, Treasurer presented a year to date financial report. AMPI is in a strong financial position with a surplus. Also at the Annual Meeting, Morelia, a colonial city and capital of the State of Michoacan was selected as the site for next year's conference and annual meeting.

The Closing ceremony was conducted by Feliz Gonzalez Canto, Governor of the State of Quintana Roo.

Note From The Author: PV Realty had what was for me a novel promotion idea. The company sponsored badge holders for the attendees. As David Pullen said to me, "John, we acquired a large number of new agents overnight."
