38th Annual AMPI Conference
email this pageprint this pageemail usJohn K. Glaab - settlement-co.com

Jorge Aguilar, President of the Morelia Section of the Mexican Association of Real Estate Professionals (AMPI) recently announced the dates for the thirty-eighth Annual AMPI Conference and Trade Show. The 2009 Conference will be held from October 21-24th, in Morelia, Michoacan. It was held at Xcaret in the Mayan Riviera in 2008.

Morelia is the Capital of the State of Michoacan. It is known both for its XVIth Century architecture and its many cultural festivals. These include an international organ festival, (the Cathedral in Morelia has the second largest organ in Latin America,) dance, Mariachi, cinema festivals and an International Music festival which will in 2009 salute the United Kingdom. (It saluted Argentina in 2008 and Cuba in 2007.) The city is gaining a reputation as the Salzburg of Mexico.

Michoacan and Oaxaca are Mexico's two best known states for crafts. One major event is during Semana Santa (Holy Week) in Uruapan. Artisans from 28 villages arrive at the main plaza to display and sell their wares. During the period there are contests for crafts, dancing and singing. Purepecha Indians prepare tasty, traditional meals of tamales, pozole and blue tortillas, cooking in large ollas (clay pots) over wood fires.

Lazero Cardenas, Michoacan is an international port on the Pacific coast of the state. It is quickly rivaling Long Beach and Los Angeles as the North American gateway for Asian products. Its advantage is that it is closer to the Eastern Seaboard of the U.S. than either of the other large U.S. ports.

It is expected that President Felipe Caldron will be invited to officially open the Conference. Michoacán is the home state of the President. The last Mexican President to open an AMPI Conference was Vicente Fox. He opened the Conference held in Mexico, D.F. in 2006. It was a celebration of AMPI's 50th Anniversary.

Of importance at the Conference was the signing of a joint venture between AMPI and The National Association of Realtors (NAR) Under the joint venture, AMPI members are members of NAR and legally able to use the NAR trademark and the term Realtor.
