Some of the Becas students who are depending on you!

Becas Vallarta and America-Mexico Foundation Presidents Mariel and Carlos Fregoso at the 2008 Becas Ball
By attending our upcoming events you can help assure that Becas Vallarta/America-Mexico Foundation will have adequate funds to pay for another year of scholarships for almost 300 Puerto Vallarta girls and boys with great ability and little economic resources.

Don't miss the Classical Music Concert on Friday, February 6 at the Westin Hotel and Resort, the Becas Breakfast on Wednesday, February 11 at El Dorado Restaurant, the Lucille Shipley Art Workshop Exhibit on Saturday and Sunday, February 14 & 15 at the Workshop Studio on at Zaragoza 414 and the social event of the season, the Becas Crystal Ball on Thursday, March 5 at the Westin Hotel and Resort.

What could be better than listening to the virtuoso violin of Daniel Juarez and the lyrical piano of Alejandro Villarreal playing classical music seldom heard in our little paradise while helping a Juan or Juanita get an education? Tickets are only $200 pesos for adults and $100 pesos for students and can be bought at the door or by calling any member of Becas.

Be ready for a hearty Mexican breakfast at El Dorado, the fourth of a series of breakfasts this season, and sure to be another sell out. There will be a raffle of fantastic gifts from Vallarta's generous business community and a small silent auction of special items. For this event, you must purchase your tickets in advance and can do so from any Becas member.

Then on the weekend, you can attend Lucille Shipley's Art Workshop Exhibit to see the eclectic collection of art produced by the almost 20 artists who are generously donating 10% of their sales to keep those kids in school. This is the second year the Workshop is contributing so munificently to Becas. Help us show our appreciation to these artists by attending the event and leaving with a painting under your arm.

Then the coup de grace, The Becas Crystal Ball! The gala event by the sea and under the stars at the luxurious Westin Hotel and Resort will begin at 7 pm with a free cocktail hour, compliments of the Westin, and Los Bambinos playing and singing for your pleasure. Then, at 8 pm, a gourmet three course dinner will be served to the 35 tables of 10 that will be beautifully decorated and graced with four bottles of wine, compliments of Teatro Limon and Trios.

During dinner and after, the sensational Grupo Odisea Show from Ciudad Guzman, Jalisco will entertain with music of all kinds for your dancing pleasure as well as some fancy singing and dancing by their talented members.

During the evening you can bid, both in the silent and live auction, on exceptional items such as original art by renowned artists Marta Gilbert, Ada Colorina, Tellosa and Meg Monroe, stays in several luxurious Mexican Resorts, dinner for 8 at the Chefs Table at the notable Teatro Limo and much more.

There are only 350 tickets for sale and they are going very fast - well ahead of last year. Be sure you don't miss out. Call any member of Becas for your tickets. Better yet, email me at phvicars(at)gmail.com or call me (322) 223-1371.

Remember, 300 of Vallarta's best and brightest are depending on you!
Polly G. Vicars and her husband of almost 60 years, Hubert (a.k.a. "Husband") retired to Puerto Vallarta in 1988 and soon became active members of several charitable organizations. Polly is the author of "Tales of Retirement in Paradise: Life in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico" [a sell-out!] and "More Tales of Retirement in Puerto Vallarta and Around the World." Proceeds from the sale of her books go to the America-Mexico Foundation, a scholarship foundation that is their passion.
