Mexico City - President Felipe Calderón inaugurated the Manuel Felguérez Exhibition, Constructive Exhibition at the Palace of Fine Arts, which joins others presented at this cultural center, confirming Federal Government's efforts to enable Mexicans to enjoy the best of national and international art.

Accompanied by his wife, Margarita Zavala, the President declared that culture is what gives us identity and expresses the enormous creativity of human beings. Government therefore aims to make it accessible and thereby enhance the life and soul of Mexican society.

The President declared that his exhibition celebrates 80 years in the life of Felguérez, who belonged to the Generación de la Ruptura, comprising artists that created alternatives to the tradition of muralism.

“I am delighted that the work of a Mexican and an exceptional Mexican at that should be displayed in the country’s most important cultural center to end the year with a flourish and mark the start of 2010, the Year of the Nation," he declared.

The exhibition comprises 108 pieces including painting, lacquer work, drawings and sculptures from the 1950s until the present. The exhibition will be at the Museum of the Palace of Fine Arts from December 3 2009 to February 7 2010.

The works are drawn from the artist's collection, the Zacatecas Museum of Abstract Art, the Museum of Modern Art and private collections. Jorge Reynoso Pohlenz and Alberto González Torres were responsible for the curatorship.
