Biblioteca Los Mangos is not "just a library." It is a true cultural and community center. It is a place where children and adults alike are able to go to read, study, use computers, take dancing lessons, play chess, learn English, watch movies, paint, among a multitude of other activities.
Los Mangos also presents numerous artistic events including musical concerts featuring everything from classical music to modern dance.
The library belongs to this community. It depends solely on donations to keep it up and running. Times are tough. Actually, they are beyond tough. Los Mangos is now in a desperate position to bring in much needed funds.
Los Mangos is now planning several large events and those details will be out soon! In the meantime, we are planning on numerous, smaller (ie "affordable") and FUN events! Think Cake Walks, Box Lunch Socials, Book and Bake Sales, Tamale Sales as well the sale of library-related items such as bookmarks, book bags and the like. A complete calendar of all upcoming events is in the works – and will be out soon!
In the meantime, if you are able to assist in any way at all, whether it be donating a cake, books to sell or perhaps you are a "crafty" person and are able to sew a few book bags, then by all means, let me know as soon as possible! We need you!
We are very proud to announce another way to donate to the library by purchasing a tile, naming either yourself or a loved one. These make brilliant birthday or anniversary gifts or to remember a loved one who has passed. Small tiles are $500 pesos and larger tiles are $1000 pesos. What a marvelous way not only to contribute to Los Mangos but to honor someone.
