Boutique Theatre Presents Arsenic and Old Lace

March 30, 2011

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Arsenic and Old Lace, the classic 1941 black comedy by Joseph Kesselring, will be presented at Puerto Vallarta’s Boutique Theatre, located at Manuel M. Dieguez 321 in Puerto Vallarta’s Zona Romantica, from March 30 through April 2, 2011 at 8 pm.

Directed by Karrie Sebryk, Arsenic and Old Lace brings us into the world of spinster sisters Abby and Martha Brewster, two sweet old ladies whose charitable acts involve lonely old men and poisoned elderberry wine.

Complications set in when their nephew Mortimer learns of the sisters' activities; and matters get more farcical when another Brewster nephew, Jonathan, a criminal on the lam, along with the strange Dr. Einstein, arrive with the body of their latest victim.

The sisters' crazy but harmless nephew Teddy believes he is Teddy Roosevelt and is in the habit of charging up the staircase as if it were San Juan Hill. Teddy’s obsession with Panama has him digging ‘canal locks’ in the Brewster cellar, which come in handy to bury the sisters' victims whom he believes are yellow fever casualties working on the Panama Canal.

The cast includes twelve local ex-pats from the U.S., Canada and Austria: Danny Maninni (Abby Brewster), Roger Uscila (Martha Brewster), Robert Grant (Mortimer Brewster), Steve Jackson (Jonathan Brewster), Liza Howe (Dr. Einstein), David Restivo (Teddy Brewster), Diana Briggs Hoyle (Elaine Harper), Gord Hoyle (Rev. Harper/Officer O’Hara), Ross Shapiro (Officer Brophy), David Averett (Lieutenant Rooney), Frank Meyer (Mr. Witherspoon) and Alice Averett (Mr. Gibbs). The creative casting has a few of the women’s roles played by men and vice ersa!

Director Karrie Sebryk has loved the magic of theatre since she was a 6-year-old pink rabbit. Thanks to Vaudeville stars in her small town, she was introduced into a marvelous world of “make believe.” Her passion to create worlds out of words led to Theatre schools and University. She loves our human race with all it's idiosyncrasies and strives to make our world richer through the performing arts.

The sixty seat intimate Boutique Theatre is owned by Karrie and Ken Sebryk. It opened in November 2010 with the production of Moments To Remember, a musical tribute to all the shows gone before. The first year's season produced fourteen shows from musicals to comedy to drama.

Tickets for Arsenic and Old Lace are $200 and can be purchased online at BoutiqueTheatre.ca, at Coco’s Kitchen at Pulpito 122 or at No Way Jose! at 5 de Febrero 260. For more information, check the theatre website or call 044-322-728-6878.
