Greg Wolfson Interiors Debuts Penthouse Design at Icon Vallarta

March 26, 2011

Greg Wolfson Interiors, a design firm specializing in turnkey and luxury resort living, has just installed an eye-catching, Hollywood Regency-style unit at the Icon Vallarta. Having worked in PV, Los Angeles, and Palm Springs, GWI approaches each project with a custom design sensibility, delivering "move-in-ability" on a do-it-yourself (DIY) budget.

This technique was perfected in Palm Springs, where Greg Wolfson Interiors was able to complete 5-7 units at a time in less than a month, and on a limited budget. Having also previously designed units at The Peninsula, we spoke with Wolfson about his approach to working in Vallarta:

BanderasNews: Tell me about your term move-in-ability?

GWI: Move-in-ability encompasses all of the client's personal design choices, and combines them with our experience delivering turnkey residences to customers all over Southern California and Puerto Vallarta.

The term means that we make it effortless for the owner to walk right into their home, by including everything from the furniture to linens and rugs, paint colors and original art, and fully-stocked kitchen and bathrooms... even wooden hangers and scented soaps. We'll even buy your favorite ice cream for the freezer!

BN: Was it a challenge to work outside of the U.S.?

GWI: First of all, PV is like my second home; I've been coming here since the late '90s and have many friends who live here full time. I had been looking for a way to spend more time down here, so designing homes in PV was the perfect solution.

Being based in Los Angeles puts us in the heart of cutting edge interior design, giving us access to vast resources and relationships with vendors that offer us the most current design products. And because of the volume of business that we do, we are able to supply our customers with high-end design at DIY rates.

The easiest part of working in Mexico is shipping from our warehouse in Los Angeles. We are able to deliver door-to-door in one week. Additionally, we are frequently in Vallarta, and can meet with clients at a moment's notice-whether in Vallarta, or their hometown.

BN: Tell us about your new unit at The Icon.

GWI: Although we are known for many different styles, we proposed to our client a look similar to one we had recently completed at the Biltmore Resortin Palm Springs, Hollywood Regency. It was inspired by the Phillipe Starck concept.

Many contemporary designers, such as Kelly Wearstler and Jonathan Adler, have brought the Hollywood Regency look back to the forefront. The glamorous, lush feel of velvets and satins that we used is reminiscent of old Hollywood, but we added clean, contemporary elements, such as the white lacquer dining set and the acrylic Louis Ghost chairs.

We infused each room with a distinct personality by adding unique color choices and personalized accessories. Mirrored accent pieces throughout tied the whole look together. The client had artwork that he wanted us to incorporate, so we augmented his personal pieces with a selection of custom paintings and prints.

BN: Did you buy anything here in Vallarta?

GWI: We always shop locally first, but our furnishings come from all over the world. We also specialize in creating custom designed furniture that is specific to the job. With our local crew working to paint and install the units, we deliver in two to three weeks, leaving the client with a fully-designed and furnished home, stocked with all of the necessities. Ready, Set, Live!
