The BBCC is working to create a community where people share the joy of developing new skills and learning their neighbor's language and cultural background. Learn more at BuceriasBilingualCommunityCenter.org.

Bucerķas, Mexico - Open on Saturdays from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm, the new Farmers' Market in Bucerķas has just opened its doors at the BBCC.

They invite you to come and discover all your favorite producers from the La Cruz and Sayulita Farmers Markets, and, at the same time, support the Bucerķas Bilingual Community Center, a very worthy charity and superb venue, in the heart of a friendly Bucerķas neighborhood.

When I walked into The Bucerķas Bilingual Community Center (BBCC) this morning, it was all abuzz with activity. Our Conversation Cafe people were waiting amidst 20 some vendors in the garden, on the front porch and both patios. I felt like maybe the BBCC had finally arrived! It felt like this was the multifaceted activity we were meant to do.

As the Conversation Cafe outgrew the room to which it was assigned, we fell into conversation in both English and Spanish about the trip the group wants to take to San Sebastian, since we all had researched and reported on this quaint little town up in the mountains above Las Palmas.

Meanwhile, the market was in full gear and some of the market goers stopped in to check out the Conversation Cafe. Among the vendors were adult students from our M/TH English class. The son of one of our students and his friend provided music extemporaneously and free of charge!

And the products, oh my, what wonderful products there were to buy: beautiful artisan creations as well as fresh organic ensalada, baked goods, salsas, chicken mole poblano, fresh shredded coconut, beautiful red beets, carrots and much much more, including a very tasty shredded pork concoction from a Vera Cruz recipe. My mouth waters just remembering the small taste I got.

But for me, it was the mix of people, cultures and activities that carried the day. Suffice it to say, I enjoyed every minute of it all.

You are still eating and we are still producing, so let's trade! The BBCC is located just 2 blocks up Matamoros, just off the main highway by Carnes del Mundo and Bajo Cero Ice House. There is plenty of on-street parking and shade.

For more information, email the BBCC at Bucerķasbilingualcenter(at)yahoo.com or call them at (329) 298-3527.
