Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - Advances in medical technology continue to make big strides and CardioMed in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico keeps up the pace. Since 1995 Dr. Jorge Chavez and his team have delivered top cardiology care and they continue to measure their progress.

"When I first started practicing here, there were no intensive care units, there were no coronary care units, and of course, there was no CATH lab to perform coronary angiography and angioplasty," says Dr. Jorge Chavez, Cardiologist, "The nurses were not trained to treat critical patients and the resources that we had were very limited. It was very challenging, the first patient I treated had a heart attack and I stayed overnight with the patient watching the monitor because the nurse was not capable to distinguish arrhythmia from normal rhythm. I have to admit it was frustrating at first but things started changing rapidly and new hospitals came in and new technology came in and it was a great opportunity to practice in a new setting and kind of be a pioneer in a lot of medical areas."

The enormous growth in both technology and the cardiovascular sciences helps doctors reduce heart events and death associated with various forms of cardiovascular diseases.

Let the team of experts at CardioMed assist you with excellent preventative and continued care. Make your appointment today.

Dr. Chávez attended the University of Guadalajara Medical School specializing in internal medicine and graduated in 1985. He performed his residency at the University of Guadalajara's Civil Hospital with rotations at the University of Utah's Health Sciences Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.

He completed his cardiology fellowship at the National Institute of Cardiology in Mexico City with an emphasis in Interventional Cardiology as a sub-speciality. Every year he attends seminars and continues his education at the Long Island Jewish Health System where he keeps up-to-date on the latest techniques and advances in the field of cardiology.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States and Mexico, so it's good to know that we have CardioMed - a heart diagnosis and treatment center in Puerto Vallarta that offers patients bilingual diagnosis, prevention and treatment of cardiac disease.
