CardioMed was started by Dr. Jorge Chavez in 1995. He and his team offer patients bilingual services including diagnosis, prevention and treatment of cardiac disease. "A lot of things have changed in the past 10 to 15 years," says Dr. Chavez, CardioMed, "The standards by which we practice medicine in Mexico have upgraded to international standards and the medicine practiced here is as good as many other places in the states, in fact, probably even better than in some other countries. There is a sense of warmth and the facilities we have make all the difference, too." Some of the services offered by CardioMed include: Evaluation, EKG, Stress Test, 24-hour Ambulatory EKG, Echocardiography, Stents, and Angiography. Because of the enormous growth in both technology and advances in cardiovascular sciences, Dr. Chávez spends several months per year continuing his education at the Long Island Jewish Health System. He is also a fellow of the American College of Cardiology. "The heart had always something magical in it," says Dr. Chávez, "Treating heart conditions was just so rewarding during my residency years. That's when I saw my first angiogram and how they image the arteries and how they treated coronary artery disease and I was amazed by that and I thought to myself, that's what I want to do."
