Puerto Vallarta Carnaval & Mardi Gras Parade

January 27, 2012

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - In order to improve the tourist promotion of Puerto Vallarta and its new Malecon, Mayor Salvador Gonzalez Resendiz has authorized the official sponsorship of the 2012 Puerto Vallarta Carnaval / Mardi Gras Parade. With the Mayor's assistance in publicizing the parade as well as providing Transito (traffic police) support along the parade route, the parade promises to be a spectacle of great entertainment.

The Carnaval Parade has been held for the previous 3 years in the Zona Romantica, but this year it is expanding to showcase the new Malecon. The parade will start at Parque Hidalgo and continue along the Malecon and I.L. Vallarta to Basilio Badillo and Olas Altas. A judging stand will be set up on the Malecon at the Lighthouse with entertainers and dignitaries appraising the lavish display.

The parade will include all elements of Puerto Vallarta culture. There will be Mariachi bands, large colorful floats from many local clubs, circus performers, traditional dancers, beauty contest winners, presentations by local charity groups, and much more. Over 100 entries will be in this parade.

In the tradition of the Mardi Gras parades in Mazatlan and Vera Cruz, this parade promises to be a highlight of the spring tourism season, attracting thousands of spectators, both national and foreign. This new Puerto Vallarta tradition begins at 9 pm on Saturday, February 18.
