La Peņita de Jaltemba, Nayarit - All of the latest news from the Jaltemba Bay Rotary Club. Founded in 2008, Rotary Jaltemba Bay La Peņita is made up of local business owners and retirees who volunteer to combat hunger, improve health and sanitation, provide education and job training, and promote peace.

Rotary Working Hand in Hand with the Mexican Government in La Peņita

Rotary Jaltemba Bay La Peņita talks on the much needed mammogram machine, owned by the Rotary, to be placed permanently in the Centro de Salud are continuing with the director of health for the Central de Salud in La Peņita.

The health center director is very excited about the mammogram machine and willing to support the local Rotary club with authorizations from his superiors. This would yet be another Mexican government 3X1 project. According to Rotary President Dr. Lidiana Flores, "we have started the process, the 'deal' is in the works, but not yet done."

The Last in a Three Part Series - Learning For Life Leadership Training

On Sunday, March 4th, eighty scholarship high school students from La Peņita's Los Amigos and Chacala's Cambiando Vidas came together at the Marina Chacala Beach Club for the last of three 'Learning For Life' leadership training workshops.

Over the last year, the students have been focusing on personal, group and community leadership skills as they participated in special designed group activities, where they learned about honesty, integrity, ethnics, accountability, trust and much more.

These will be our next generation of leaders. What they have learned will determine some of the success of our growing communities. Funding for the leadership training came from a Rotary International one year grant, involving Kalispell Montana Rotary and Jaltemba Bay La Peņita Rotary. How to continue the program? Please contact Susana at susanaescobido(at)gmail.com.

Casa de Los Niņos - Success out of the Ashes of Tragedy

David and Pat Martinez suffered the lost of their children and grandchildren in an auto accident. They turned their grief into a mission, focusing on the young children of the Lo de Marco area. They opened an after-school center, called Casa de los Niņos.

They did not know how many children would want to take advantage of such a program. Imagine their surprise when 80 children came the first day! Every day is a wonder as the center offers: musical experiences, yoga practice, theater interpretation, birthday celebrations, singing, dancing, costumes parades, art projects and help with homework.

Volunteers bring their own special talents reveling with the happy children. For those interested in participating in the joys of Casa de los Niņos, please contact David Martinez at casalodemarcos(at)yahoo.com.

Rotary International is the world's first service club organization, with more than 1.2 million members in 33,000 clubs worldwide. Rotary club members are volunteers who work locally, regionally, and internationally to combat hunger, improve health and sanitation, provide education and job training, promote peace, and eradicate polio under the motto Service Above Self.
